Ford began production of its ‘pony car’ in the mid 1964 model year. Championed by Ford General Manager Lee Iacoca. the Mustang was an instant success. Available initially as a coupe or a convertible. with a low starting price and a large choice of colors and options. the Mustang sold faster than Ford had ever hoped. It caught all of the other major auto manufacturers by surprise. It was so popular that through the 1965 model year the Mustang sold 680. 89 units. its first year ! It remains one of the most collectible and instantly recognizable classic cars worldwide. This particular example was manufactured December 18th 1965 . at the San Jose. CA plant and sold to its original owner through Hacienda Ford in San Clemente. CA. The car still retains its original black license plates and Hacienda Ford license plate frames. She owned the car from 1965-1970. The car was sold to one of her co-workers who owned the car from 1970-2014. She kept the car meticulously maintained with excellent records. The car comes with its original books and a nice file including some original paperwork on the car. We purchased the Mustang from the second Southern California owner. a woman who had owned the car from nearly new. and cared for the Mustang like it was a member of the family. The car was always garaged. highly maintained and never involved in an accident. When we first inspected the car. we were amazed at how well cared for the car was. The original floor pans remained in virtually new untouched condition as did the frame and all original sheet-metal. We refinished the car to a very high standard in its original color of Tahoe Turquoise. A testament to how well cared for the car was. the original interior was left in place. The mustang is well equipped with power steering. power convertible top with optional glass rear window. full console. automatic transmission. heater. AM radio. wire wheel covers. two tone deluxe interior. The car is a show worthy example that is ready for both the show field and the open road. It is an amazingly straight. tight. and solid example. It is a very rare find indeed to come across a two owner southern California Mustang with such great history. A true icon among classic cars.
