Description for Ford Mustang 1965
This 1965 Ford Mustang GT Convertible is an Original factory K-Code car that was fully frame off restored by itsprevious Indiana-based owner six years ago. The matching numbers (VIN-stamped) HiPo 289 V8 was rebuilt three years ago and is backed by a factory correct close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission.I acquired the car in 2013 and have sinceinstalled a new Scott Drake complete front suspension, Bilstein sport shocks, Rally Pac gauge cluster, BF Goodrich dual redline tires and a Waldron concours exhaust system. The car has been driven less than 2k miles over the last four years and is now offered with a period-correct Tri-Power induction setup (extremely rare), a clean Indianatitle from the previous owner, and a current Vermont transferable registration in the my name.
Of the nearly 1.8 million Mustangs built from the start of production through 1967, K-Codes make up less than 1% of the total. This original Honey Gold Convertible is the only one that I can find listed in theHiPo registry. It's also a Dearborn car which are even more desirable. True K-codes like this one are the holy grail of Mustangs and are increasingly getting harder and harder to find. A truly great investment opportunity.
The chassis tag is attached, and breaks down as follows: Convertible, standard interior (76A), Honey Gold Metallic paint (C), black crinkle vinyl interior (26), produced July 15, 1965 (15U), DSOCincinnati region (31), 3.50:1 axle ratio (5), 4-speed manual gearbox (5). The Warranty number translates as model year 1965 (5), Dearborn plant (F), convertible body (08), 289 4v HiPo engine (K), unit 789709. Note*No Bucktag with this car - Dearborn cars did not come with them.
EXTERIOR:
The paint has been very well applied and is complimented by Pony wheels with color-matched accents. The paint is absolutley stunning in person. Fog lights in the grill and dual exhaust tips distinguish the GT model (this car is a true GT with rear reinforcement plates for the dual exhaust, fog light relay attached to wiper motor mount). The power convertible top is well fitted and featuresa clear rear window. Top Motor works excellent. The trunk is fitted with a correct patterned liner, and similar material was used for the spare tire cover and tool kit bag.
INTERIOR:
The restored interior is fitted with several upgrades, including a new Rally Pac gauge cluster, wood rimmed wheel, new carpet and black vinyl Pony seats. All of the gauges work as they should and the car has NOT been modified with an aftermarket radio.
ENGINE &CHASSIS:
The original matching numbers 289 cubic inch HiPo V8 was rebuilt less than three years ago and is set up to run fantastic on 93/91 octane pump gas (No Pinging). The exhaust is a new Waldron Arvinode Concours system (Sounds Incredible) and front disc brakes are fitted. The suspension has been upgraded with Bilstein Sport Shocks and complete new front suspension from Scott Drake. The engine bay is nicely detailed and the engine is fitted with finned aluminum valve covers. Car also comes with correct chrome valve covers as well. The rear end is a correct Ford 9″ (early 65 version - no notch out) with 3.50:1 rear gears. The underside is nicely detailed, with crisp looking black paint on the floors and structural members. The period-correct Buddy Bar Tri-Power induction setup is included with the sale (Not installed). The manifold is fitted with three matching Holley carburetors (66 date coded) and a correct air cleaner. This is a period correct an extremely rare unit that was available over the counter back in the day. Known as the Cobra Induction Kit - I.E. Cobra emblems on front fenders. Easily $5000+ on its own.
SPECIAL NOTES:
The car has brand new BF Goodrich dual red line tires (Less than 100 miles). Any pictures with BF Goodrich T/A's are the old tires. I still have and can be included with sale. Also, pictures of car on the lift show the old exhaust system. I apologize in advance for the mix of old and new images but I do not always have access to a lift.. Any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask me. This is not a perfect Concours Correct Mustang - meaning every single part is NOT date matched and coded correct but it is a TRUE matching numbers engine to chasis Extremely Rare K-code Mustang and a very well restored one at that. I estimate it would take between $5-6000 to get this car to the Councours level if one chose to do that. Car is always garaged kept and is exclusively worked on by Scott Roth of The Auto Shoppe in South Burlington, VT. One of the best mechanics and restoration specialists in the country.
This K-code is very special Mustang that would fit into any high-end collection. You will be hard pressed to find a better running and driving Mustang anywhere. This car look and runs like it was built yesterday. Car is the best of both worlds - An Ultra Rare Driver!
