Description for Ford Mustang 1989
This is the highly desirable 1989 Mustang LX 5.0 P40E (notchback) coupe offered for sale with 22,500 original miles. This is only 1 of 843 5.0 coupes every produced in the beautiful Dark Grey Metallic paint code. This vehicle has all of the desirable options that collectors are looking for. Mustang is badged 25th anniversary!
Engine: All original factory equipment, headers, Motorcraft plugs and wires remain on the vehicle. No serious oil leaks and the main seal is stays dry. Engine oil, filter, and radiator fluid changed annually using Motorcraft parts. Exhaust: Factory installed headers, catalytic converters, mufflers, and exhaust pipes. Brushed rear pipes are aligned correctly and in mint condition.
Color: Gorgeous original factory dark metallic grey two stage clear code 1D. Metallic paints received a clear coat shot in 1989 and were the first on the Ford Mustang production line to use the new process. The rest of the 1989 paint codes were single stage color shot only until 1990 when the factory fully cut-over to two stage clear. 842 notchbacks received the paint in 1989. The paint condition is 9 out of 10, but it is not "concours". There are a few minor crazing spots on it as it was kept uncovered for a period of years and a couple of corrections that are less than a pencil-eraser size. All of the paint has the factory “orange peel” appearance that these cars were known for. The car is always garaged under a custom cloth cover. The car is never driven in the rain or during inclement weather.
Interior: Factory grey cloth interior in like new condition. Factory mats are missing but double mats (carpet and rubber) are in the vehicle and a good color match. Map light is operating and original, Ashtray door is not broken. Original yellow gear shift tag remains that would have been on the car at dealership delivery. Interior and vanity mirror lighting fully functional.
Electronics: Factory premium sound and 6 speaker system remains and sounds great. 1989 was the first year that the premium audio system was offered.
Instrumentation: Original equipment is functioning normally and the dash lens is original. Dash lens in very good condition with only very minor crazing. All dash lighting are functional.
Undercarriage: The vehicle received an aftermarket undercoating treatment at the Ford dealership. This coating was a very common rust preventative application in the northeast market. I spent several months removing the coating from the engine bay, cross-members, gas tank, rear axle, springs, door jambs, and exterior panels. VIN code is M for locking 2.73 rear differential.
Glass: Mint condition Carlite Sun-X windows. All glass, side view mirrors, windshield are numbers matching for 1989 and factory installed. Rear window defrost. A few window tinting defects/scuffs are present in the driver’s window. All power windows and switches work.
Air-Conditioning: All original factory equipment. System serviced (vacuumed pulled, oiled, charged) and blows ice cold, however the seals are leaking. I preferred just keeping it in place and charging it when needed. Low pressure compressor cutoff works and does not engage when the pressure is low, preventing the system from damaging itself. Heater core is original and not leaking.
Vehicle Identification: Buck tag, rear differential tag, VIN certification label, and all VIN body panel stickers are all correct and in good to excellent condition. This is important as it documents that the vehicle has never been damaged in an accident or had body panel replacement.
Documentation: Window sticker missing. Car comes with original 1989 owner’s manual w/ plastic sleeve, (2) 1989 Ford Mustang dealership brochures, a 1989 factory shop manual, and custom Marti report for authenticity. Original Ford issued door and ignition keys. Letter of authenticity from Ford Motor Company,

On Feb-12-17 at 11:27:26 PST, seller added the following information:I am getting a lot of questions about the paint condition from potential buyers. The crazing spots that I mentioned are, in my estimation, related to water etching from years past. If you have owned fox body mustangs with a clear coat finish you know what I am talking about. Years ago I had a 1991 hatchback where etching had progressed beyond the clearcoat and into the color. On this carany of theetching is contained within the clear coat. Etching could be removed by a professional if you are looking to take this car to #1 condition, they never bothered me enough to worry about it. It takes an eye and the right light to see the spots.
It's very hard to be critical of our own cars, lets be honest. This is not a wrap car that costs +$30K. If that is what you are looking for (concours, everything 100%, never driven) please do not bid. Look at all of the pictures, they tell the story of the car very well.
