Description for Ford Torino 1974
For sale is a 1974 Ford Torino finished cosmetically as a Starsky and Hutch tribute car. This Torino is a true survivor that has been off the road for over 20 years until its recent revival. Mechanically it is original, with a 351 c.i. 2-V, automatic and 9" differential. Original options include power front disc/rear drum brakes, power steering, air conditioning (inop) and tilt steering. The Torino has a very solid and rust-free body and straight frame with no accident damage. All service necessary for a car off the road so many years has been completed. The fuel system was cleaned, a new fuel sending unit installed, and the carburetor rebuilt. The 351 received a full service and tune-up along with a new water pump, fuel pump, and thermostat. All belts and hoses were replaced. The radiator was rebuilt. A new heater core and heater control valve was installed. The brake system was completely rebuilt, including all new brake hoses, new rear wheel cylinders, rebuilt front calipers and a new master cylinder. The car features new front shocks and air shocks with dual inlets at the rear. The transmission was flushed and serviced, as was the differential. All electrical was gone through and everything works as it should. New light bulbs were installed throughout the car. The instrument cluster was cleaned and checked for full function and new dash light bulbs were installed. A note for those familiar with these early Fords: the very problematic EEC 1 ignition system was removed and a rebuilt points-style distributor installed along with a new coil that requires no primary resistance.
Cosmetically the car is very nice. The straight original body was stripped, primed and blocked multiple times before the 2B red and 9D white were applied, then sanded and polished. The finish is not absolute show quality, but is very nice and presents well. All body lines are good. The door hinges had no undue play, so were left original as were the hood hinges. The door window tracks were cleaned and lubed, the window regulators were rebuilt as needed for good operation. New window-feltswere installed, as were new roof-rail, door and trunk weatherstrip. The trunk was cleaned and painted, then finished in grey/white spatter paint. Door and trunk locks were rebuilt, and a new ignition cylinder installed.
A few notes on the Starsky and Hutch re-creation: 1974 was the year of the pilot for the series, which used a slightly different white stripe schematic. This car was painted with the series-style white stripe. Also, the actual Ford Starsky and Hutch Torinos were painted in an earlier (1972) 2B red, so that is what was used for this car. And yes, some of the series cars did have bench seats and column shift. The wheels and tires are correct to the re-creation, to the extent that the T/A radials are brand new old stock with the earlier tread pattern and white-letter markings, quite possibly the last set of these in existence.
The interior features an all black looks with newly custom upholstered seats with new seat foam, new carpet, new headliner/sail panels and a new package tray. The dash pad is a very nice original, as are the Gran Torino door and interior quarter panels.
Comes with a cool red magnetic police light for the roof and a signed copy of a Starsky and Hutch TV show episode.
The Torino has a clean and clear California title. The vehicle is for sale locally so we reserve the right to end the listing at any time. Car is sold as is, with no warranties existing or implied.
