Description for Ford Ranger 1983
This is a rather rare, strong running, solid riding, truck that has never seen salt or snow-dry climate truck it's whole life.Clean and clear Ohio title reflects actual mileage of 48,xxx miles.1983 was the introductory year for the compact Ranger. This model comes with dual fuel tanks, which was a rare option for any year Ranger. The 4-speed w/overdrive gearbox was a rare option for that year. Dana 28 differential with manual locking hubs and twin traction beam suspension. Borg-Warner 1350 transfer case. 373 rear end. Trailer package.
20 MPG average in town. On the highway I was averaging just over 30 MPG. The 2.8 liter engine is bulletproof. No leaks. It was manufactured in Cologne, Germany and features mechanical lifters and uses timing gears instead of a chain, which gives it a reliable and durable reputation.
Very clean and rust free. Truck has a solid and rattle free ride. 6 foot bed is solid and Rhino lined. Original cab and body mounts in like new condition. The truck was stored indoors for 25 years when I bought it, and I have done a mild restoration, in that I pulled the fuel tanks down and flushed them out, replaced fuel lines front to back, flushed and replaced all fluids including brake system and cooling system. Flushed and refilled crank case, transaxle and rear end. New heater core, speedometer cable, thermostat, hoses, belts, vacuum lines, spark plugs, cap and rotor. New brakes. 5k on new tires. Brand new, full size factory spare mounted in factory position the bed (mounting for dual tank truck). New front bearings. Paint is waxed, original and in decent condition. Keep in mind this is a 34 year old truck, and you may find spots where the paint is thinning or old scratches filled in, but over all its pretty impressive for it's age. Body is straight, a ding or two here and there, but you'd have to look for them. All floor boards, sheet metal, cab corners, doors, fenders etc are solid and free of rust. Doors close solidly and seals are in good condition. All plastic trim is in excellent condition. Chrome and stainless steel is polished and in very good condition-no rust or pitting.
Truck is very original; even includes some original dealer paperwork and manuals. Original keys. Original jack and tire tools. Original factory steel wheels and hubcaps. Original carpet is clean and in excellent condition. Original bench seat has a golf ball size tear in the cloth on driver side but otherwise in good condition. Dash is in good condition. All gauges work properly. Manual windows and door locks. AM/FM radio works. All electrical works. All lights -turn, stop, backup, high beam/ low beam are new. Tilt wheel. This is a factory AC truck, and system has just been serviced and is ice cold. Heat is VERY hot.
This is a daily driver, and I've owned and driven this truck for the last 5 years, which includes a few cross country trips back and forth to California, and I have NEVER had an issue with it. Climbed the Rocky Mountains easily. Runs cool across the high dessert or climbing 7000 feet. Always starts cold or hot.
