Description for Ford Galaxie 1964
This 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 is the king of the street sleepers. Beneath the elegant black color is a slick fastback roofline and a potent 390 V8. It's a true factory muscle car before there were muscle cars.Today we are lucky if NASCAR race cars mildly resemble our street machines, but in 1964 Ford truly let the stock car series dictate the styling of their Galaxie coupe. The sloping rear roof of the special code 63B fastback might have made the car more attractive, but its true purpose was better aerodynamics on the track. It looks amazing when bathed in this black paint, especially with all the bright chrome. Owning a Galaxie was about showing off Ford's top-of-the line, and that's seen in great brightwork on places like the bright streak that run the full length of the car, surrounding the jet-inspired taillights, and outlining the beautiful hardtop roof. There are even great factory wire wheel covers. But easily its true hallmark is the front grille with horizontal waves of chrome. It was special to 1964 and looks perfect on this one.Open the door, and this Galaxie is wall-to-wall red for plenty of classy aggression. There's no mistaking the premium image on the vinyl seats with chrome backing and chrome trim. In total, it feels like a pristine car preserved from the 60s, which is a true testament to the level of investment during restoration. The driver gets the original premium chrome ring wheel and power steering. Beyond that is the wide gauge cluster that spans half the dash. It includes a massively long speedometer flanked by two barrel style gauge clusters. While the whole package looks thoroughly factory original, there is one part that is an interesting period-correct add-on. Because this is a full-size coupe, you've got plenty of space to carry family and friends. So the radio has been upgraded to a retro-style AM/FM/cassette unit that allow for them to be entertained by more modern tunes. The original radio can also be included, but this is just a nice way to keep everyone happy while you enjoy cruising around.Pop the hood and you'll see that callouts on the fenders were not lying. This is the car has its correct Z-code 390 cubic-inch "Thunderbird" V8. While Ford did not do numbers-matching back in '64, the date codes line up so nicely that it's hard not to believe that this is the original big block. Dressed with stunning gold Thunderbird valve covers and a matching air cleaner, it's the ideal early '60s powerplant. And more than just look great, this V8 was given a thorough restoration by the consignor to replace whatever was necessary, including new seals, freeze plugs, fuel pump, water pump, generator, and starter. Plus, the four-barrel carburetor was rebuilt. That means this one fires up nicely, runs smoothly, and gives a nice grow out of the newer dual exhaust. Plus, this Galaxie's three-speed Crusie-O-Matic transmission has been serviced and the seals were replaced. Plus, the consignor just replaced the shocks, brakes, and master cylinder. So this powerful coupe has been given all the right investment and care to keep it a smooth runner for years to come. Call now!
