Description for Ford F-100 1964
A true icon. 1964 Ford F-100 SHORT BED V-8 "Y block" 292 in its original condition, rendered in the two tone colors of Wimbledon White (Ford stock #M-1619) and Caribbean Blue (#M-0056). 82,000 miles, three on a tree shifter. Nothing in the cabin has been messed with which, if you have studied these trucks at all, is truly extraordinary. The inside still has the original seat and fabric including the embossed "Ford V-8" which was a perq for those who purchased this top of the line edition. Only changes are: 1) disc brakes (a very wise alteration for a vehicle this heavy) were added to the front wheels; 2) original (from the 1970s) Cragar wheels in the stead of the Ford stock ones; and 3) a paint job changing the two tone colors (original was two tone of white and bengal tan--see last photo).I purchased this truck in August of 2009 from Chad Engle an Air Force mechanic in Avondale Arizona. Chad was the second owner; he had bought it from a rancher located near Chandler, AZ who had purchased it from Earnhardt Ford in June of 1964 (see vehicle inspection sheet). Chad was intending to hotrod the truck, and added the Cragars, but was on his way to a stint in Afghanistan and had to sell it.
To say this truck is a head turner is an understatement. I've owned it 8 years and have never failed to get a comment when I drive and have had countless messages left on the windshield offering to buy. It's been in a commercial as well. Mostly though I've used it to haul--bricks, construction, furniture etc. It's strong as an ox and the tail gate is in mint condition, not bent or difficult to close.
I put a ton of time and money into the truck. Items include: a rebuilt steering gear box and linkage, transmission overhauled including all gears, shifter rebuilt, front wheel bearings overhauled, block crack/oil leak repaired, muffler and tail pipe replaced, break lines bled and changed where necessary, gas tank tank, float and feeder line overhauled, electronic ignition installed plus oil changes, new battery, replacement of tires, windshield visors, side view mirror, etc. All told, including the paint job I've spent over $10,000.
The truck is fully operational. There are some, however, drawbacks to this 50+ year old vehicle. I blew out the wiper switch one night when I pulled it thinking it was the headlight switch. I have the parts for it in a baggie and a mechanic who could rebuilt although I haven't done so because I don't drive it in the rain. While the seat is original the fabric is torn and should be replaced. Also there is no headliner, courtesy light or carpet. There is no spare tire, the assembly for it (which was beneath the truck) is gone. The emergency brake is faulty and apparently cannot be fully repaired even with a new cable. The radio is missing although the face plate is in tact. The heating fan's switch needs to be cleaned--sometimes the fan comes on sometimes it doesn't. The bed has some rust (only primer was applied during paint job) but it appears to be surface only as the undergirth looks fairly clean. The paint job has some scratches from a time when the emergency brake failed on a hill and is also missing some of the style side moulding. The steering wheel is original and worn.
Not a doubt in my mind this thing goes another 50 years to someone who takes car of it. The price is a fair one; among other things the Cragars alone are worth hundreds of dollars reconditioned (e.g.,http://www.ebay.com/itm/14-x-6-NOS-VINTAGE-CRAGAR-RANGER-CHROME-WHEEL-RIMS-SET-OF-FOUR-/282618128286?hash=item41cd5a679e:g:StYAAOSw~otWfJlE&vxp=mtr).
I'm located in Los Angeles and can assist in shipping. Truck is for sale locally and I reserve the right to cancel this auction if it sells. Please DO NOT purchase this vehicle and then tell me you want to test drive it. Do it before you buy. Thanks.
