Description for Ford F-550 1948
Selling my 1948 Ford 2. 5 ton Coe cab over house car. I purchased this vehicle from the original owner who built the structure on it 20 some years ago. He lived in remote mountains north of Chico and did mobile stain glass art work out of it. The house is structural sound but does have cosmetic details to finish. Mechanically the truck is very sound and would confidently drive it anywhere. The previous owner had planned to make a cross country journey in her. and invested over 8k in mechanical improvements. The stock six was replaced with a completely rebuilt 350 and rebuilt 4 speed manual transmission by a local speed shop. 2 speed rearend that shifts in and out ok. The tires and spare are in new shape although muddy from getting stuck in backyard. The truck was reportedly driven home from mechanics and parked for a year during which time the trip was cancelled. I drove the truck 3 hours north of Sacramento and it performed wonderfully. Cruised nicely down the freeway at 65 mphs. I have driven the truck around town and to a local car show but quite frankly the attention was too much for me. Its a mob scene around this truck at all times. I had originally intended to make a hot rod hauler out of it. but could not bring myself to removing the structure. Originally a box truck. the flatbed extends roughly 20' from the back of the cab to the end of the frame. The overall length is around 26. 5' with a 7' wheel base. I would add another 1' for overall structural puffiness. The cab has some minor dents and minor rust but overall in good original condition. It has a dual propane set up which fuels the wall heater. tankless water heater and a Wedgwood stove and oven. The front cabin also has a parlor potbelly stove and heats the place nicely. There is a freshwater holding tank and pump which provides water to the two showers (one outside) and sink. It is also equipped with 4 solar panels. battery. and monitoring for electricity. I have not tested the solar power but reported by previous owner to function correctly. This house was designed for off the grid living and that's exactly what he did. The roof is sound and has served me well but window insulation on several windows would be needed if your planning to live in it. This thing has tons of neat storage and an outside fold down table for work. Shower has stained glass ceiling and windows that open up for a very unique showering experience but also has closeable shutters. The possibilities are endless and for the right artist. merchant or even food truck and will bring attention like you wouldn't believe. Some of the gauges are not functioning but majority work. Hand brake was disconnected during engine swap and never hooked back up. Aside from that this is an excellent running and registered cab over that will sure to make you (probably not your wife) very happy. If you have any questions please fell free to contact me. I have 100% positive feedback and have sold some big items on here so please be serious. have funds together and families permission before bidding.
