Description for Ford Mustang 1966
Up for sale is this stunning Tahoe Turquoise 1966 Mustang Convertible. I've owned this car for a number of years and much love and care and a ton of money have gone into maintaining it as outlined below. Get in this car and drive anywhere!Basics:
Car is option free with the exception of automatic C4 transmission. Straight six 200 c.i.d. engine Manual steering, Manual brakes, Manual windows. It does have the original working AM tube FORD radio and added an aftermarket stereo with kickpanel speaker kit but did not make any alterations to dash or wiring other than a few holes drilled in the bottom to hold the stereo housing. Even with the lack of power options the lightweight engine and lack of add-on components make it easy to steer, drive etc. Of course manual 4 wheel drum brakes require more finesse and allowing for adequate stopping distance but they do the job. Period correct exhaust and car runs very quiet. no knocks rattles or pings. Correct Mustang spinner hubcaps on white wall tires round out the overall appearance. All electrical components work and are trouble free (wipers, lights, signals, horn, cigarette lighter etc.). Vehicle was built in April 1966 with a DSO of Washington DC where it seems to have been through the 80's (note inspection sticker from 1986 in center of windshield) and further decoding indicates all colors and components are correct.
Repairs/maintenance done:
Engine was completely rebuilt from bottom to top less than 5000 miles ago by a certified/reputable Mustang restoration shop in CT. The day I purchased the car both the engine and transmission blew 50 miles into my ride home. It was found on teardown that the bottom half of the motor was shot (main bearings/camshaft etc. and most likely due to oil not being changed in probably decades by previous owner(s). Under advisement of the shop Found a low mileage (40K) '67 motor and had it redone including hardened seals to accept regular fuel. I did not bother to keep the original block so the car is NOT numbers matching (though only once decoding numbers would anyone know since everything is period correct) New alternator, battery, starter, solenoid, brakes. Cannot stress enough the $ and time spent and the car runs absolutely brand new. The transmission bell housing was cracked so during the rebuild it was swapped out. Transmission shifts flawlessly and no hesitation or issues. Rear end also had a soft rebuilt with new seals and bearings and ujoint.
Regular oil changes done using only synthetic. Mileage is 99K and it's quite possible this is original but have no prior records. I have only driven it 5k miles in the 15 years I've owned it.
Body:
Early Mustangs are notorious for rust as any aficionado knows (often called "Rustangs" as a result.) There is not a lick of rust on this car ANYWHERE on the unibody, structural components, torque boxes, trunk, shock towers, frame rails, trunk, etc. The cowl does NOT leak and external panels are solid and bondo free. One external rust through spot the size of my thumb (pictured) but inner and outer wheelhouses both sides are excellent. Car was apparently garaged for many years. I am unfamiliar with the history or any prior restoration efforts but there's definitely been some panels replaced as the gaps and lines are off and require adjustment. I do not have access to a lift but if it's mandatory a potential purchaser have photos of the undercarriage Ill be happy to take some . I use my cars as drivers not trailer queens so there are nicks and dots here and there on the body but certainly an honest car respectable enough to enter local shows and enjoy. Car has been alternately stored in garage or outdoors since my ownership and is kept meticulously clean (with the exception of the engine compartment since I don't need to be able to dine off the aircleaner). The trunk is lined in the houndstooth vinyl with spare tire cover (aftermarket) and is clean and dry. additional aftermarket items include mustang tool bag, removable center console and custom floor mats. The convertible top is manual and there's an aqua matching boot as well. Back plastic window is clear, All glass is FOMOCO original including windshield.Chrome is presentable no rust or dings and polishes up nice Original dashpad with no cracks or warping and only minor sunburn.Seats are soft and pliable and back seat and side upholstery appear original
Items to address:
The aftermarket carpet kit has some pilling and wear and though clean probably could stand to be freshened up depending on your plans for the car. Paint is very shiny and a midrange paint job so while there's no orange peel or imperfections aside from the nicks and bruises mentioned again depending on personal preference may benefit from a respray. Gauge pot is original and lost it's luster though the glovebox cover is immaculate. One of the heater cables broke so have to go under the dash to turn it off and on seasonally but an easy fix and heater/defroster fan work fine.
Conclusion/ Sale Details:
I have a clear PA title in my name. I am letting the market dictate the final sale price of this car with NO reserve and do NOT have this car for sale locally. (I have no time for kids with no money wanting to go for joy rides). Serious buyers only!! (that means clear the purchase with your wife, accountant and cat before placing a bid) Please do your due diligence with this car. I welcome any mechanic, personal, or third party inspector to view prior to purchase. I have 100% feedback, been a member since 2000 and have bought and sold dozens of cars over the years but am NOT a dealer or car expert just a car lover. Understand you are bidding to purchase not to come back after the transaction or delivery and start picking the car apart. I have presented this Mustang honestly as a car that's meant to be driven and enjoyed and not a museum piece and it's priced to move. Deposit must be paid within 24 hours and is non-refundable. Final Payment can be in form of certified check, wire transfer or Paypal (though buyer must pay associated fees.) Sorry I don't accept trades, livestock or yen as payment. The only reason for sale is lack of storage and a divorce and a means to raise cash. The last picture in the cache is of my "fleet" and all the other vehicles are/ will be listed for sale as well. I'm truly saddened to see them all go at a significant loss versus investment. I am easily accessible by all major transportation and close to the Philly airport and will help in any way possible to make this an enjoyable transaction. Feel free to contact anytime with any questions and thanks for looking!
