Body condition:
The car was repainted in the factory color of white a few years ago. It was faded and worn, so I had it repainted in the blue you see. Paint and body work was $3000. What little rust there was, was taken care of at the body shop. The car looks perfect from 5 feet away. Very shiny, beautiful paint. The fiberglass hood shows some small flaws upon close inspection. The paint shows a few small flaws upon close inspection, and there is a small spot on the passenger side door corner that wasn't smoothed out. See video. The lines are very good on the Mustang. Some slight dings, but nothing serious. Hood isn't perfectly centered and needs a little more adjusting. It does latch securely.
Undercarriage:
All four floor pans have been replaced with heavy steel (see video). It isn't factory correct in appearance, but seems to be hard as a rock. Frame rails, torque boxes, rockers, etc all seem great.
Mechanical:
I was told by the PO that the engine was rebuilt. It's a 302 from an early 1970s truck. He said he bored it .30 over. It definitely has more get up and go than a standard 289 car. It runs well with no unusual noises. The carburetor is fairly newer. It needs to be adjusted a little more at the throttle, as sometimes you have to tap the gas to get it throttle down a little. Transmission goes through all the gears. I broke off two valve cover bolts. Any mechanic can remove the broken off bolts for you. Engine could be detailed to be show worthy. Engine compartment looks very good. Horn is wired to a switch on the side of the steering wheel. Radiator looks older and it gets hot in hot weather. I'd install a 3-core aluminum radiator if I kept it. Unknown miles.
Interior:
New carpet and sill plates. Upholstery was done a few years ago and shows minor wear overall. One small spot on the passenger seat has been patched at the corner. Convertible top headliner looks excellent. Overall, I'd give the interior an 8 out of 10.
Known defects: Power top sometimes doesn't cooperate. I think it needs a new switch as the motor looks brand new. Drum brakes could stand some adjusting. Or consider upgrading to disc. Speedo stopped working last week. Probably needs a new speedo cable. Temp gauge is defective. A couple small door seals will need to be bought (cheap). Includes original windshield wipers, but I haven't installed them because they're a little faded. They're included. There's a small spot of rust that I had to repair on the inside of the driver side door. It will be finished before the car leaves.
Conclusion:
I bought this car to bea nice local show car/cruise-in car. Not to be a concourse, high end car. I think anyone would love to own this car, but I just want to make sure people have realistic expectations. It isn't perfect, but it looks great to me. People always ask me, can I drive this car home to California, etc., from Tennessee? I would tell you that the car drives well around town, but I personally would not drive this car (or any old car) a great distance without first going over it with a mechanic. Title is in the name of previous owner, and he signed it when I purchased the vehicle. I also have a signed bill of sale from previous owner showing legal transfer of ownership to me. The "buyer" part of the title is blank.
IMPORTANT: Please ask all questions before bidding. This description, the pictures and the videos are not meant to be a definitive overview of the car. I try to be as detailed as I can be, but it is an old car, and you just never know with old cars. No warranty. No returns. No cancellations after auction is won. Please arrange all inspections prior to auction end and prior to you bidding. I will provide my cell # to anyone interested in talking about the car. I am a very, very honest person and will probably be more brutal about the car than I should be. Please check my feedback and bid with confidence. I've been dealing in Fords and Mustangs for more than 16 years on ebay with 100% positive feedback. I sell Mustangs and only Mustangs. I am not a dealer, but rather a Mustang hobbyist. $500 NONREFUNDABLE deposit due within 24 hours of auction end. Balance will be in the form of cash or bank wire transfer. Period.
