Description for Ford Mustang 1965
The Mustang met with an immediate enthusiastic response when it debuted in mid-'64, as the car buying public was drawn to the idea of an exceedingly sporty four-seater that was lightweight and ably bridged the gap between the often cramped confines of a sports car and the uninspiring driving experience of most larger vehicles offered at the time. This 1965 Ford Mustang convertible was one of the first on the scene and was more commonly referred to as a "1964 1/2". Still featuring a "numbers-matching" drivetrain including correct F-code 260 V8 and factory correct hue both inside and out, it proudly carries all that mid-'60s mojo into the present day for its next lucky owner to enjoy.
You'll be immediately taken by the visual impact of this Mustang. Its outstanding appearance conveys the impression that it hasn't so much benefited from a thorough restoration as it has from being protected in a hermetically sealed environment over the decades. The Wimbledon White exterior was one of the more popular color choices when it rolled off the line and it's in fine form here, sporting a deep shine and even pigment from front to back. Take a full lap around the car and you'll see that the details have all been well looked after - nice even gaps between body panels, front and rear bumpers that show nice, clean, unpitted chrome and are table-level, and housings and chrome trim that are all looking great. The designers at Ford did a great job of making sure the Mustang convertibles of the day didn't lose their appeal with the top up, and while your initial daydreams will likely include tooling down the road with the top down, during less forgiving weather, the red power convertible top is not only a great visual complement to the rest of the car, but it's in great condition and raises without complaint to protect you from the elements.
Inside is a well-restored interior that will take you back to a much simpler time. The red vinyl bucket seats in front and bench seat in back show almost no perceptible wear and have been skillfully refurbished to their original configuration. Just in front of the stock Mustang steering wheel, the dash area is an uninterrupted expanse of clean red steel, housing an instrument cluster that's in truly impressive shape, with a crystal-clear lens, accompanied by chrome switches and cigarette lighter just underneath that are sporting a mint appearance. A vintage-look AM/FM/Cassette player sits front and center in the dash - specifically designed for vintage Mustangs, it's in good form and ready to provide the tunes as you enjoy the road. In back, the trunk area is in very tidy shape, lined with unspotted carpeting with a full-sized spare looking unused and at the ready should the unforeseen occur.
The original, numbers-matching 260 cubic inch V8 sits inside an impressively clean engine bay. Surrounded by all stock components, it fires right up and runs very smoothly. It's paired with the also-original 3-speed automatic C4 transmission this venerable Ford started out with. More than 50 years after its journey began, this is one Mustang that still provides an impressive driving experience - its power steering remains impressively tight (Ford was, in the opinion of many, ahead of the curve at the time when it came to power steering) and the power drum brakes bring things to a stop in short order when called upon. This classic sits on a set of stock 14" stock Mustang wheels with spoked hubcaps that feature Scott Drake centers, wrapped with American Classic white walls.
