Most often when you think of the mid-sixties cars, Chevy and Mopar sometimes steal the spotlight. But what about Ford? Sure sure a few 427 big block powered Thunderbolts and some Mustangs slipped out and come to mind, but a lot of people overlook the big Galaxies, which is a shame because they are great cars with a decent following andNow here in front of you is just one of those beauties, a 4 door fastback. You just gotta love that roofline and side profile, with the big opening and no posts. This one sits in front of you with just 32,582 miles on the odometer. We can't confirm its original, but the way we found this car, and how incredibly clean it was before we restored it, make us believe it's correct. Just look around on the inside, we only recovered the front seats and installed new carpeting and a packing shelf because it was faded, all the rest is original! This is one amazing piece of Ford Fastback history. Looking at its incredible interior design, along with the fabulous exterior trim that Ford had on its top-of-the-line XL 500 Gaxalie for 1964, makes you wonder why they stopped building sedans with as much chrome as this car.Speaking of great body and trim work, when we found this car in the basement of a former hardware store it was backed into the corner facing towards me. When I first walked up to it, I couldn't believe how cool the body lines were and how solid this car was. The interior was so clean and everything was present and accounted for. The worst part of the interior was the front seats, packing tray, and carpeting, which were faded out by the sun. If it wasn't for sun fade, we would not have even replaced the front seats and carpeting. After getting back to my office I had to call the owner and make him an offer. The car wasn't for sale, but I guess for the right price anything is for sale! So the next day that car was here and we were pulling the trim off it getting ready to prep the body and get it into the paint department. Unfortunately, when we got the car, she was sitting there in that basement without an engine in it. The trans and all other hardware was there, just no motor. So we installed a 302 out of a Mustang and added some new valance covers, intake, carb, billet air cleaner, and a new aluminum pulley drive set for it. Soon, she roared to life and after some tuning, the car runs like an absolute dream. Looking at the car now that's its done, the trim is in incredible shape, with only a few misc dings in some trim that couldn't be located in any better condition. The trunk was repainted and a new trunk mat was installed. While the engine was out, we cleaned and repainted the engine bay in factory satin black. Once the fresh paint was applied, then the trim was reinstalled along with new front and rear bumpers and a few misc parts we sent off to be re-chromed. You gotta love those spear shaped body side moldings and the way the XL 500 emblems jump out at you. You just can't deny the beautiful styling and design of the mid-sixties cars.Raise this beauty up on the lift, and you'll find solid floorboards and a great looking solid frame. We installed new brakes all the way around, with shocks and sway bar links, and a new dual exhaust system to finish the underside restoration off. So no matter if it's on your lift at home or just sitting in your garage, this Galaxie Fastback is impressive to look at.Get it out on the road and your mind races back to the mid-sixties when these cars were everywhere on the road when only the cool dads back then had the Galaxie XL 500's.This one runs down the road smooth like it did back then. Turning on the lights, all of them are in operation on the dash, as well as outside the car and on the door panels. The backup lights even work and shine brightly as they did when it was new. The only thing not working currently is the radio. We left it in the dash for the correct factory look. if you wanted to once you purchased it, you could always hide a new one in the glove box and keep that factory stock one in the dash for the correct look as many of our customers have requested from us in the past. This is the car you wish your father bought, instead of that station wagon most families had.So if your looking for something that's stylish, reliable, and has room for the family or friends without having to squeeze into the small back seat of a coupe, this just might be the ride for you for this upcoming summer.Give us a ring today to grab this rare '64 Galaxie 500 XL Fastback before its gone!
