Description for Ford Mustang 1965
This 1965 Mustang is a prime example of modern muscle. Starting with a media-blasted. stripped. and rotisserie-prepped body and frame. the canvas was set for a truly unique build. The highly modified and modernized suspension begins with a TCI weld-in front end sporting billet coilovers. independent front suspension. and power rack-and-pinion steering. The entire front clip was prepped and painted with Ford Kona Blue matching the exterior. Rear underpinnings are from TCI with coilover shocks. torque arm. and sway bar. All suspension and rear-end components were painted with Silver chassis enamel. Under the hood. this Mustang features a Dart Iron Eagle 302 short block bored to 4. 185 inches. The rotating assembly includes a hardened steel Ford Racing Crankshaft. molly rods. and forged pistons all kept in place with 4-bolt billet mains. A performance dual roller cam allows the engine to work its magic. Feeding air into this motor is Holly supercharger and polished Holly intake manifold mated to Dart Pro 1 aluminum heads. An Edelbrock 650 CFM carburetor connects the driver to the motor while the MSD ignition and distributor. in conjunction with a 6AL control module. feeds the spark through Taylor 8mm ignition wires. Headman Shorty headers get the power out through a dual 3-inch exhaust. All of this suspension and horsepower means nothing unless the power can be delivered to the ground. All this power uses an AOD transmission with Lokar kick-down. throttle cable and Lokar dipstick. balanced flex plate. and a B&M shifter. Further down the driveline. after the balanced drive shaft. the power flows into a TCI 9-inch rear third member with 4. 11 gears turning 31-spline axles. American Racing 17 inch Torq-Thrust II’s were custom-made and wrapped in 235/45/R17 Bridgestone Potenza RE760 sport tires. Steering is via a Borgenson shaft kit connected to an Ididit black tilt steering column. A Classic Aire AC/Heater/Defrost system is installed with under-dash vents. All rubber weather stripping and chrome window trim has been replaced with new items. in addition to replacing the glass with tinted glass. new regulators. door locks. door lock rods. latches. handles. and replacing all of the felt in the interior. In-car audio is provided through a Kenwood stereo with a touch screen. navigation. Sirius satellite radio. Bluetooth. CD and iPod interface with music produced through a quartet of 6x9-inch speakers and a trunk-mounted amp and subwoofer. New cabin and trunk carpet and floor mats were installed as well. Last. but not least. the interior was finished off by the late Carroll Shelby’s signature. Other finishing touches include a Shelby hood. Shelby front valence. new bumpers and bumper guards. new emblems. new drip rails. window trim. interior and exterior lights. grant leather steering wheel. horns. window rollers. door handles and gaskets. electronic oil. trans. and water temp AutoMeter gauges and a new glove box. The exterior was finished off with 2011 Ford Kona Blue with offset Pearl of Essence stripes. giving a unique road car look. This is a nice car that is waiting for it's ultimate owner to decide if this car will go the route of a vintage racer. or a classic muscle show car!We would like to note that. although this car is not a perfect show car or a perfect vintage racer. it has the full potential to do either one. or both! With top of the line TCI suspension and driveline components. and a host of top of the line engine upgrades. all this car really needs to be a perfect runner is some attention to alignment. and/or an adjustment to the offset of the front wheels. If driven hard in a corner. the left front will rub slightly. A little bit of negative camber. or lower offset wheel would alleviate that. Also. the paint is a very nice pick (Ford Kona Blue) but it appears that different panels were painted on different days. therefore. there is some color variation between panels. We bought this car as it sits. and we had our fun with it. We've decided it is time to pass this highly capable Mustang Coupe on to the ultimate end owner who will decide whether to take this car and make it a racer. a show car. or just enjoy it around town as we did.
