This is a great truck I started restoring 3 years ago. I bought it from the original owner. an older gentleman in Blacksburg. SC. He used this truck as his "Church truck". He said he and his wife would drive it into town a few times a week and to church on Sunday and then he would park it in the carport during the week. I paid him $5. 00 for the truck and I have visions of hot rodding it by lowering it and changing the wheels and dual exhaust but. the more I drove it and looked at it I realized there was something cool about it remaining 1978. Down to the Cobra CB radio the old man had installed under the dash to the 8 Track player to the factory original hubcaps. So. I took it to the body shop and they pulled the windows. grill. bumpers and trim off the truck. Sanded it down to bare metal. primed it. block sanded it and laid down new Light Blue paint and 5 coats of clear. doors. jambs and body where completely painted. Spent $4. 00. 00 (have receipts)New door seals. window seals and felts where installed. New emblems. marker lights where installed. ($920. 00)Interior was in great shape so why mess with it? I was driving it over the bridge a few months ago and noticed the oil pressure was low so I took it into the shop and we hauled the motor out. popped the heads off and noticed no damage. At that point and thinking I was going to keep the truck for years. decided to rebuild the engine. sent the heads off to be polished. all new pistons. bearings. gaskets. etc. ($3. 00. 00 I have receipts)New tires. New A/C compressor. dryer. etc. ($710. 00)This was a open checkbook on frame restoration that I was planning on giving to my kids one day. My mother in law has Lupis and needs help so I am getting rid of a few to help her. I hope someone will enjoy this as much as my family has. New front bumper and chrome wheel trims. Numbers matching. all stock truck. Zero rust. Drives perfect. I would drive this truck anywhere. Fly in and drive home. New stainless mirrors and carpet from LMC. New tires. Less than 200 miles on new engine. All transmission seals were replaced too. Just serviced and all filters and fluids changed. Please see attached Marti Report and you will see that this is 1 of 124 trucks made with these options making it a very rare truck. 400 engine is all orginal equipment from the air cleaner to the oil pan. The man I bought it from lived a few hundred miles from the dealer. I live here in Charleston which is 120 miles from Blacksburg. Which means this is true southern truck that has never been more than 300 miles from the dealer from which it was bought from new in 1978. The orginal owner had said he had never been out of the southeast and he had never even been on a airplane! I am pretty sure this truck has never been out of North and South Carolina. He kept it in his carport and I keep it in a climate controlled garage so that must be why there has never been rust on this cool old truck.
