Description for Ford Mustang 1967

Here is a professionally built, extremely authentic 1967 Shelby GT500 recreation. This car started life a C code 1967 fastback. When purchased twelve years ago, the body was media blasted to reveal all past history of rust and damage which was very little. The passenger side outer floor pan was replaced. The front floor supports are solid and were worth keeping for originality's sake. They do bear the scars of countless floor jacks from over 50 years of service. Competition Engineering subframe connectors were welded in to tie the unibody together for strength and rigidity. All Shelby vacuum-formed fiberglass and body accessories were purchased through Tony Branda for the best fit and finish. Correct in-board high beams with all body scoops completely functional. Glass is OEM with green tint, except for the windshield which was replaced. The door and rear glass have minor scratches from nearly 52 years of age. The car is painted in the correct 1967 Ford Wimbledon White with 1964 Ford Guardsman Blue stripes. It is a PPG base/clear finish. The paint looks fantastic minus the few nicks and chips from road duty which are hardly noticeable. The interior is correct with the deluxe seats, door panels, and dash board. There is a correct 8k rpm Shelby tach in the dash. All gauges are functioning and correct. The factory Ford AM radio works fine and has a vintage FM converter hidden under the dash. The heater assembly has been rebuilt and restored. All fresh air ducts are functioning correctly. A Shelby roll bar is installed with 4 point racing harnesses for the front seats. Lap belts for the rear fold down seat. All upholstery has been re-covered with new period correct material. Autometer gauge pod with mechanical oil and water gauges give an accurate diagnosis of the engine. All lights, turn signals, heater etc. function as original. The suspension has been rebuilt to factory specs. The upper control arms were lowered in the Shelby fashion. The coil springs are 1" lowering springs. The rear leaf springs are mid-eye for a 1" drop in the rear. Heavy duty sway bars front and rear have been added. There is a slight muscle car rake to the stance. The steering has been modified with a Unisteer manual rack and pinion. This has been converted to power steering via an electrical power steering unit that is under the dash. One finger parallel parking with no leaky hydraulic lines. The power steering is also adjustable through a potentiometer knob under the dash the raises or lowers effort depending on the drivers preference. These units are what BMW uses, and are nearly invisible tucked under the dash. The car tracks straight and is firm on the road. The brakes are factory Shelby power assisted Kelsey Hayes 4 piston calipers with 11.25" rotors. The rear are rebuilt factory drums with correct Shelby cooling ducts that stem from the lower scoops. There is an adjustable proportioning valve already plumbed in to adjust bias if need be. Vacuum is produced by an electrical vacuum pump hidden inside the front passenger wheel well. This pump provides all the vacuum necessary to maintain a nice, power assisted pedal even with all of that cam. The wheels are reproductions of the correct Shelby 10 spoke 15x7" aluminums. Tires are BF Goodrich Radial T/As that measure 225/60 in the front and 255/60 in the rear. The power plant is a correct 1966 428 police interceptor block, which would be correct for a 1967 Shelby gt500. The engine was professionally bored .030 over and balanced. There is less than 4k miles since rebuild. The oil pan is a Canton 8 quart road race low profile pan with all of the baffling and oil control doors. The cam is a Comp XE274H-10 hydraulic with .562 lift. The cylinder heads are Edelbrock aluminum performer RPM. The roller rockers and stands are made by Erson. The intake is a rare Dove tunnel wedge 2x4. The carburetion is conducted by two Holley 600 cfm vacuum secondary carbs with the chokes machined out. There are no chokes and both carburetors have been modified and tuned for performance. Therefore, like all performance cars of this era, the engine is cold-natured and will need to be properly warmed up prior to operation. A pair of factory Holley 600s with an electric choke on the front carb would make the engine more pedestrian friendly. However, the performance and stunning looks of the current carburetion is well worth the warm-up on a car like this. All linkage is original style. Ignition is electronic via a pertronix ignitor inside of a factory 428 distributor that has been recurved for performance. The powerplant is tuned to run on gas pump friendly 92 octane. No additional lead or octane boosters are necessary. There is a 3" K and N filter between the Cobra oval open element air cleaner. The water pump is an Edelbrock aluminum high flow unit. There is an aluminum high capacity radiator that is cooled by a belt driven flex puller fan, and an electrical pusher fan in the grill which is operated with a toggle switch under the dash. The fuel delivery system comprises of a factory style fuel log fed by an original style Carter mechanical fuel pump. There is also a Holley blue electric fuel pump plumbed in to deliver extra fuel volume if needed. All fuel line is upgraded to 3/8" cobra jet style line. This pump is energized by a toggle unit under the dash. This pump assists filling the carburetors after long periods of sitting or as a capacity booster for high performance use. All electrical components have the proper gauge wiring and relays in the circuit to maintain long life and consistent performance. The exhaust is scavenged by Hooker super comp ceramic coated long tube headers. The gases then enter a magnaflow 2.5" exhaust system with an X pipe and polished mufflers. The tailpipes exit the factory cut out style valance through 3.5" stainless tips. Sounds terrific. The transmission is a Tremec TKO 600 5 speed that is effortlessly shifted via hydraulic clutch comprising of a Tilton throw out bearing and a wilwood master cylinder. The shifter is a Hurst. The clutch is a Centerforce dual friction diaphragm style. Clutch pedal is light and very similar to a late model vehicle. The starter is a high torque mini starter from power master. An aluminum driveshaft with safety loop spins the torque to a Ford 9" rear end filled with Dutchman 31 spline axles and a 3.50 limited slip differential. Shelby under rider bars provide the traction. This car not only looks the Shelby part, but backs it up with stunning performance and great sound. Clear Pa. title in my name. Thanks for looking.
