This Mustang has been adult owned from a local estate and was stored in a barn since 1981. This beauty needs to be restored but has had one owner and is equipped with a 289 A Code engine (4 bbl), toploader 4 speed, GT package, Pony interior, positraction, wood steering wheel, Rally-Pac gauges and more.

In addition, we have the original Ford Mustang warranty card, owner's manual, and parts. The 1965 1966 Mustang Fastbacks are one of the best years and body styles for Mustangs and this one has all the right options.

We properly prepped the engine and have it running superbly and driving fairly well for it's age. We also changed the fluid in the 4 speed and rear end, tuned up the motor, rebuilt the carb and replaced the tires, water pump and hoses and the fuel pump, as well as the plugs, cap and rotor and battery. It starts right up and sounds awesome. The gauges work from what we could tell, as does the heater, wipers, lights, tach and even the clock and interior courtesy lights. The radio does not function, and the fog lights are also not operating.

The brakes are drum all the way around as the owner didn't like the disc brakes and removed them in the late 1960s, why? we don't know. The proportioning valve, etc are all there and it did have discs on at one time as a GT would. All the parts are available when the brakes are redone.

The interior is beautiful but does have a few spots on the seats that should clean or buff off. The material is beautiful and does not need to be replaced. The carpeting is shot but we have new carpeting for the car we are including (ACC). The interior is original. It will also need a new headliner. We also have brand new front and rear bumpers and guards, door handles, tail light bezels, and more we are including with the sale.

The exterior has rust as shown, and should probably have quarters, a drivers door skin and fenders to do it right. The wheels are in superb shape, and the tires are new. There is also a broken rear axle bracket that happened years ago. The underbody photos should help cover the condition of under the car. Every panel is available for these. The passenger rear floor pan is bad but we are also including one as shown. There has been a few repairs over the years under the car and to the body, and the original color was changed to green from the original C code honey gold. The interior is 68 code ivy gold and white deluxe pony.

Mechanically, it starts, stops and drives fairly well aside from chatter when starting off in first that could be a clutch disc but when rolling, it is fine. It shifts through the gears effortlessly and has a ton of power. There is no smoke even at startup. The compression was tested and it is 160, 160, 160, 160, 160, 160, 155, 150. It idles super smooth.

Given the interior, engine, transmission and body and the documentation and options, it is hard to find anything better than this to start with in this price range. We were impressed with how well the engine starts, runs and idles and how well it shifts and drives. What a great candidate for a full restoration or a father and son project.

If you are looking for a new car, no squeaks or rattles, or the reliability of a Toyota Camry, this car is not for you. If you understand that you are buying a project and are a Ford Mustang enthusiast like us, this vehicle deserves a closer look. Remember that it needs a restoration and will require work to be road worthy.
