Restoration Photos SELLER REMARKS Early Mustangs are the universal collector car. beloved by all and a lot of fun to own. And despite that huge popularity. cars like this 1966 Ford Mustang convertible remain eminently affordable. With V8 power. period A/C. and a fantastic color combination. this is the one you've always wanted to own. Stripped to bare metal and repainted from there in 2008. this Signal Flare Red Mustang convertible has movie star looks that have been popular for decades. You've seen a lot of tired old Mustangs running around. and this most certainly is NOT one of them. Body gaps are excellent. the surface finish of the paint has a fantastic gloss. and it feels far more substantial than you'd expect from a 50-year-old ragtop. And yes. code 5 Signal Flare Red is the car's original color and it's a great choice. not too orange like Poppy Red and brighter than Candyapple. so if you want to get noticed. this is a great way to do it. During the restoration it was fitted with a set of GT-style fog lamps in the front grille. but otherwise remains true to its original specs. including the '289' badges on the front fenders. which it comes by honestly. The chrome bumpers are in excellent shape. probably new when the car was restored. while the inserts in the C-scoops on the quarters are probably original and in decent condition. Black is also this car's original interior color. and it wears top-of-the-line Pony upholstery that was new when the car was restored a few years ago. The complementary wood accents on the steering wheel. dashboard. and center console warm up the otherwise monochromatic Mustang interior and it actually makes for a very upscale look. All 1966 Mustangs got the 1965 GT 5-gauge instrument panel and there's dealer-installed A/C under the dash which still blows ice cold. There's a newer replacement AM/FM/cassette head unit with speakers in the rear side panels and in case you didn't realize. Mustangs were the first domestic production car with standard seat belts. Black carpets are protected by a set of rubber floor mats and the door panels are mostly painted. like they were when they were new. so it's easy to keep them in top condition. A matching black convertible is a little discolored but on a Mustang ragtop. you're probably never going to see it anyway. The trunk is nicely finished with a reproduction plaid mat plus a correct cover for the full-sized spare tire. There's a correct C-ode 289 cubic inch V8 under the hood and it was fully rebuilt when the car was restored in 2008. Except for a 4-barrel carburetor. the rebuild was done to stock specs so it purrs quietly at idle but has authoritative torque out on the road. The underhood look is quite stock. with Ford Blue on the air cleaner and engine itself. while most of the other parts are satin black. as they should be. The A/C compressor dominates the upper engine. but a glance underneath will reveal power steering (a nice perk on a Mustang!) and stock cast iron exhaust manifolds feeding a proper single exhaust system. The C4 3-speed automatic transmission has quick shifts and an easy demeanor. and there are energetic 3. 50 gears out back. so it feels quick and light on its feet. Other goodies include a new gas tank. correct reinforcements under the chassis. and handsome styled steel wheels with 14-inch whitewall radials. This is the Mustang you've always wanted. great colors. V8 power. and nice options. all priced right and ready to go.
