Description for Ford Model A 1929

You are bidding on a 1929 Model A Ford pickupThis truck has a cab and bed that was built by the Briggs Body Company and placed on an original Model A chassis in 1929. It still has an original Briggs Body Company tag that was attached to the exterior passenger side cowl (see picture). Note: The Briggs Body Company built Fordor sedan bodies for Ford. but they also built other body types for themselves and for other manufacturers. The outside body is metal clad over a wooded frame. There is evidence that the truck originally had a canopy top that went from the front of the cab to the back of the bed. Some wood framing has been replaced. The truck has been driven as is for years. but there is some missing floor wood that could be replaced to make the cab more snug inside. The truck grew up in New Jersey. The person who had owned the truck since 1963 decided to sell it. In 2004. he listed it on Ebay. Having a love for unusual Model A pickups. I bid on it. but I was outbid. The high bidder drove to New Jersey and towed it to his home to Norfolk. Virginia. I was able to contact the new owner and we became internet and telephone friends. communicating weekly for 10 years. He joined the Cape Henry Model A Ford club and the truck was used regularly on club tours. He was one of the club photographers and I have many digital pictures of the truck at club activities. My friend passed away in 2014. I purchased the truck from his family. I intended to keep it. but I am buying a low mileage Model A sedan and unfortunately I don’t have room for two Model A’s. The truck comes with a picture scrapbook that shows its history (photos. receipts and copies of titles). dating back to the 1960’s. There is also a 1970's newspaper article (The Daily Journal) about the history of the Sweet Advertising Company founded in New Jersey in the 1920s. The article shows a 1930’s or 1940’s picture of an identical 1929 truck. The truck had been converted into a sound truck. with advertising posters on both sides. It was well known in the Union County area of New Jersey. The scrapbook contains other separate black and white photos of the Sweet Advertising truck. Having the article and the separate photos in the scrapbook make me wonder if the truck could actually be the same Sweet Advertising truck. The truck still has the original motor. which has the same number as on the title. In 2007 the head was resurfaced. the valves were reground. and the mains and rods were adjusted. Shortly thereafter. the Tillotson carburetor was replaced with an original rebuilt Zenith carburetor. The truck has working shocks and a clean undercarriage. It has a 6 volt alternator. There was quite a bit of engine work done in the 1960’s. The scrapbook has receipts for that work. The truck currently runs. but could use a tune up. There is an intermittent electrical short. involving the headlights. The seat has been replaced some time in the past. but it seems to fit in the location. An extra rear stop light has been added. but is not working. The truck is currently registered in California with original 1929 commercial license plates. I plan on keeping those plates. but they are open to discussion. The yellow wheels seen in some pictures since have been painted back to original black. The sun visor is missing. It blew off during it’s transport to Southern California. The previous owner was slowly repainting sections of the truck (see green hood and tailgate). I have added 2 pictures of a 1929 Martin Parry blue canopy pickup so you can get an idea of what the original canopy top might have looked like. Please notice that in the second Martin Parry blue picture. that the lower section behind the cab is exposed wood. The same applies to the behind the cab area of the Briggs body. This is a unique Model A with known history. It would be a perfect truck to advertize your business. It would also be a fun vehicle to drive around town and in local parades. I will add more pictures in the next few days. but if there is sometime in particular that you want. please let me know. This truck was removed early from Ebay. last week. Unfortunately. the buyer did not meet his agreement. I may list the truck for sale locally. This auction could end early. if the reserve has not been met. Your personal or agent inspection is welcome prior to the end of the auction not after. I have tried to describe the condition to the best of my ability but may have overlooked something. It is the bidders responsibility to ask as many questions as possible to feel comfortable prior to bidding. Also. please have your finances in order before bidding to avoid any potential problems There is no warranty expressed or implied and is being sold as is where is. The balance is due within 1 weeks of the close of the auction in the form of a cleared Bank draft or cash before the car can be moved. Car must be moved within 30 days of close of the auction. The winner is responsible for all shipping and transportation costs. SORRY. NO TRADES On Feb-09-15 at 23:07:18 PST. seller added the following information:Someone asked about door glass. The driver's side door glass is broken. Both regulators are not working. On Feb-10-15 at 22:14:14 PST. seller added the following information:Please note that I added extra pictures that were not in the first auction. One pictures shows the tailgate and bed. The outside portions of the bed are metal clad. The inside portions of the bed are wood (not metal clad). The floor is wood (not metal clad). A small rug has been nailed to the floor. I used to own a 1929 Model A Martin Parry pickup. I included 2 pictures of it in this current auction. It had a canopy roof that started at the windshield and went across the cab and bed and ended at the tailgate. The upper portion of the back of its cab was metal. The lower portion of the back of its cab was wood. The outside of its bed was metal. The inside portion of its bed was wood. along with its bed floor. The Briggs body pickup has the same format. It seems to be a common theme used by outside pickup body makers at that time The extra stop light was mising a part of the socket. I am including a socket that may fit. I mentioned that the undercarriage was clean. It is not perfectly clean. but better than mot Model A's I have owned. Te previous owners made a spare tire holder out of plywood and attached it to the back of the cab. He did not want a wheel well fender as they usually keep the door from opening all the way. Please note that there is a picture of body parts that go with the truck. There are 2 small panels that fit on the side. behind the doors. There are also 2 brackets that probalby fit at the upper back portion of the canopy top (see a sample in the Martin Parry pictures). On Feb-10-15 at 23:26:25 PST. seller added the following information:The fourth picture was taken in 1976. It shows the truck in a parade. someplace in New Jersy. There is a red sign on the door which reads: 1929 Model A Ford Under Restoration Briggs Body On Feb-11-15 at 08:51:21 PST. seller added the following information:To remove any confusion: The 2nd picture is what it looks like today. Or you can basicly take the first picture. remove the sun visor (lost in transportation). and change the color of the wheels to black. On Feb-13-15 at 23:27:00 PST. seller added the following information:The old battery stopped holding a charge. I replaced it today with a new 6 volt battery. Someone asked for more pictures of the bed. I took pictures and tried to add them. nbsp;but it seems that 24 pictures is the maximum. If you have any questions. you can text me at 562. five seven seven. zero six one two. I might be able to text pictures.
