Description for Ford Galaxie 1964
Let's not dance around the issue: if this were a tricked-out Impala, it would cost twice as much. Yet this slick-built Ford offers flashy good looks, full-sized comfort, and a strong small block under the hood, all beautifully finished to high standards and for a fraction of the price of most '64 bowties built in a similar fashion. With incredible curb appeal and the tried-and-true dependability of the Blue Oval, this 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 is a very special cruiser. The first thing you notice about this big Galaxie is that gorgeous two-tone metallic paint, with a flashy burgundy red finish up top and neutralizing silver shade below. Look at how the light dances on it, changing colors depending on the angle, bringing out the details and drawing the eye. It's been applied over straight sheetmetal, all of which has been masterfully finished to show standards, and on a Galaxie, that's a lot of real estate to manage. The side trim was removed and door handles were shaved for a smooth look, and the expertly applied pinstripe patterns on the hood and deck lid are a sweet custom look that give this big Ford even more unique character. The work didn't stop there, either, because once the paint was on, there was the long job of color sanding and buffing to bring out the final brilliant shine that's found on both finishes. Of course, a great paint job is nothing without the details being right, so the bumpers are newer and shine up beautifully, and the front grille is imposing and draws attention to its intricate details. And when slammed to the ground via the AirRide system, this Galaxie really brings in the crowds everywhere it goes. Neatly straddling the custom/stock fence, the interior is nonetheless beautifully finished. Stock seats and door panels retain their basic shape but are now upholstered in bright red vinyl and off-set with black cross-stich patterns that are so much more sophisticated than the original 1964 basics. Workmanship is first-rate throughout, with straight seams, nicely stuffed cushions, and a ton of hand-polished hardware throughout. Black sparkle carpet is an awesome space-age addition into the cabin, and that theme is continued in the sparkly steering wheel as well. The factory instrument panel and dash are painted to match the exterior, and a Vintage Air unit is tucked in neatly underneath the dash and fills the interior with R134a cold air. The factory AM radio is still in its original dash position, although the stereo is now centered around the boom coming from the JL Audio subwoofer and amplifier in the trunk. Joining the stereo equipment in the trunk is the AirRide system tank and housing, along with a bias-ply spare tire. In a big car, you need V8 power, and the small block Ford in this Galaxie doesn't disappoint. With plenty of pop to pull the big body through all the elements, the Galaxie is very responsive and a joy to drive. Holley supplied the 4-barrel carburetor, and chrome valve covers and an open-element air cleaner add a nice shine to the overall presentation of the engine bay. Everything has been nicely detailed under the hood, and you'll have a hard time keeping gawkers away every time you lift up the bonnet. It's backed by a 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic feeding a 9-inch full of driver-friendly gears, so it cruises easily and moves like a much smaller car. The chassis is very solid, and the stock manifolds feed a dual exhaust system that features Glasspack-style mufflers that give the small block a basso profundo voice that will make your hair stand up. Shiny Coker Classic wheels are the right combination of retro and modern, and wear new beautiful white-wall tires that finish the look of this custom Ford perfectly. Finished to a high driver standard, this is a car you can buy and show with confidence; it's even nicer in person than it is in photos. Be unique, buy a tricked-out '64 Ford. Call today!
