Description for Ford Thunderbird 1963
Ford basically created the personal luxury car segment with the original Thunderbird. It was sporty, but not a sports car. It had plenty of power and handled well, but also placed an emphasis on comfort. They call them Grand Touring cars in Europe and Ford redefined the segment every time they redesigned the T-Bird. This 1963 is a low mileage example that drives great and looks sharp. It will definitely turn some heads when you pull up somewhere or as... you roll down the street. Different people notice different things about this car first. Some notice the color of the car. It is the factory correct color with a fairly recent respray and a really nice shine. Some notice the shape of the car. It has a sleek, bullet shape to it that is highlighted with chrome. A bold piece of it runs from the front bumper, up and along the top of the fenders and doors to the subtle tailfins. The vinyl roof accentuates the sleek shape and has a stylized accent on the side sail panels. The view from the front is of a hood scoop and Thunderbird badge over a toothy chrome grill flanked by quad headlights and underlined by a bumper that curls way down under the front end. Out back, the big round taillights look like afterburners with another Thunderbird badge between them and another substantial chrome bumper. Open the door and you will find an interior in the European, Grand Touring tradition, with comfortable leather seats and gorgeous wood grain trim surrounding you. The door panel sets the pattern in Black with a wood grain center panel trimmed in chrome. A wooden steering wheel is mounted on a three spoke hub with a horn ring that runs over halfway around the wheel and has a Thunderbird center button. Behind it the gauges set in a wraparound dash that is unique in design and stunning in looks. The thin chrome surrounding the gauges as well as on the controls are polished up nice and shining bright. The radio is at the top of the center console with the ventilation controls which include those for A/C underneath it. Power window switches are easy to operate and sit just in front of a center console that has a nice storage area in it. Those leather seats are power operated and trimmed in chrome. Open the hood an you will find a 390-cubic inch motor all dressed up in Ford Gold engine paint. These motors have plenty of torque to power this car easily down the open road or the sport around twisty back roads. Everything is completely stock and there is a sticker on the air filter assembly announcing what the engine is. Signs of good maintenance include recent ignition components as well as newer belts and hoses. Power flows back through a two-speed Cruise O Matic transmission to the rear axle mounted on leaf springs. Up front, coil springs working through lower control arms with a beefy sway bar help make the car handle well and ride nice. The rubber meets the road through 215/75R14 wide white wall tires that are mounted on steel wheels with brushed metal and chrome hub caps. This is a great example of a classic T-Bird. If you are looking for a car that with turn some heads and drive like a dream, then come on down and check this one out. You'll be glad you did.
