Description for Ford Mustang 1966

For sale is my beautiful Candyapple Red 1966 Mustang coupe which I purchased five years ago from Streetside Classics, one of America's premier classic car dealers. I set out to find the nicest Mustang I could to bring back memories of the first car I bought as a kid. History: I have the original owner's manual which shows it was purchased new, with about every option you could get, on 10/6/66 from Lyle Horton Ford in West Virginia, then sold in 1973 to a local gentleman who restored it by the book. It only had 30,000 miles when he bought it and he had the engine completely rebuilt to K-code high performance specs. He drove it another 30,000 miles before his widow turned it over to Streetside Classics whom I bought it from, and transported it back to its new home in New Mexico. EVERYTHING on this car is original or restored to original: original C-code 289 motor (rebuilt to hi po specs with a 4-barrel double pumper Autolite carburetor), original C4 Cruise-o-matic 3-speed transmission, 9" rear end, dual exhausts, power steering, power brakes, factory A/C, Comfortweave seats, styled steel wheels. The paint, glass, and chrome & jewelry are all beautiful and shiny; the fit and finish is excellent; panel gaps are tight, everything lines up well, and it has a highly detailed look—I'd honestly say a very good 7 out of a perfect 10. The only minor flaw is two small seam tears in the driver seat which arrived to me that way due to age. I opted to keep the original comfortweave upholstery as is, which is irreplaceable, rather than replace it with pony covers. Otherwise the interior absolutely sparkles. All gauges work as they should. The second owner put a nice Kenwood/Sony stereo CD/cassette sound system in it but kept the original Ford AM radio which I still have with the car. It also has new BFG Radial T/A tires which I assume Streetside put on as most of their muscle cars seem to sport them. I added a matching spare in the nicely detailed trunk with has the original jack and tire iron! The only thing I have mechanically done was had front disc brakes professionally installed so it stops on a dime. Great improvement—the only thing better than a fast 60s car is one that stops safely! Cosmetically, I also put on a correct Ford 289 hi-po air cleaner and a bolt-on Shelby monte carlo bar which look great.. I also still have the original factory Ford blue air cleaner, so both can come off if that's your taste. A small Mustang emblem on the hood covers an old paint chip and adds a distinctive bling masking a 50-year old blemish, which could be easily removed and refinished if desired. In the five years I have owned it, I have only driven it 1,000 miles on Sundays in perfect weather. It has always been garage kept and clean. I have had the oil changed and the engine and transmission serviced every year. It fires right up and roars like a hi-po motor should. (I jokingly tell admirers, "everytime I start it, a Prius dies!”) The dual exhausts give it a beautiful 60's muscle-car note without being too loud. It drives and handles perfectly and is a fun, headturning weekend cruiser; it would also make a super cool reliable daily driver for some lucky kid (young or young at heart)... or just a fine collector example of iconic American automotive history at its best. This Mustang has lead a really good life and will make the next owner really proud. Any questions welcomed. Thank you for looking.
