Description for Ford F-100 1961
This 1961 Ford F-100 is just a neat old pickup with some smart upgrades and a classic look. These were great sellers in 1961 but today you just don't see many of them around and the chiseled good looks of the stepside bed make it stand out. If you're a Ford guy, this one might be worth examining a little more closely. The bright red paint is honest, driver-quality grade and the vintage pickup wears it well.... The sheetmetal was new in 1961 so the Ford has a fresh look going into the '60s and the red paint highlights the many built-in details. Check out the swooping front fender lines and the little jog that the belt molding takes just behind the front fenders. Finish quality is good with a nice shine that will look good at local cruise nights and running down the road, but it's not so perfect that you'll be afraid to use this truck as intended. You'll note that the bumpers were painted to match the exterior paint, and it leaves a uniform work that works well to somewhat soften the hard lines of this F-100. Adding a wooden bed contributes to the old-school pickup's charm, although it admittedly has seen some better days, but if you're looking to haul your Home Depot wares home in this classic, you won't think twice about messing anything up. Perfect it is not, but this is a very honest truck with a lot going for it. It sticks to basic looks inside, too, where there's a bench seat, heavy-duty floor coverings, and a few color-matched details. The comfortable gray bench seat adds a bright touch that works rather well with the red bodywork and the color-matched carpet, headliner, and seat belts are a nice touch. The factory instrument panel covers only speed, temperature, and fuel level and in 1961, Ford trucks were still so basic that even turn signals weren't included (this one has an aftermarket setup). The former owners wanted a touch more powertrain information during their drives, so a column-mounted tachometer and trio of auxiliary units were added to keep an eye on the vitals. Radios were also optional in 1961, so an aftermarket AM/FM unit was added in the center of the dash, although it's having some trouble catching a signal so the antenna may need a little attention. The 3-speed shifter jutting out from the floorboard makes slicing through the gears a joy, adding a muscle car vibe to the vintage pickup and the wrapped steering wheel adds a bit of sportiness to the overall look inside. Utilitarian yet comfortable, the cab of this '61 Ford is a great place to spend some time. In the horsepower department, this Ford has been nicely updated with a 352 cubic inch V8 topped with three 2-barrels that looks like it was born under the hood. Simple Ford Blue paint, chrome Ford valve covers, and a that triple set of carburetors add up to a truck that will have people asking whether it was actually that powerful from the factory. It's a blast to drive, with a great torque curve and plenty of juice off the line, and thanks to the roomy engine bay, service access is excellent. The giant radiator has no problems keeping things cool and it offers a great-sounding dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers and tips just underneath the rear bumper. The underside of this truck is in nice shape and has nothing to hide, and with the heavy-duty leaf springs and a durable 9-inch rear end, it's plenty stout. Painted "wagon" wheels look good and are wrapped in 275/60/15 BFGoodrich white-letter radials to complete the look. Built Ford tough and fun to drive, this F-100 delivers on all levels and carries a very reasonable price for a popular vintage pickup. Trucks are hot right now and Fords like these are the reason why. Call today!
