Description for Ford 40 1934

1934 Ford 40 Roadster

The great thing about the evolution of hot rodding is over the past 30 years a vast array of excellent products has continually streamed onto the market. And presently, anyone with a check book and an affinity for going way too fast and looking way too good can build anything from state-of-the-art rides, avant-garde to old school cool.

This sweet Ford coupe, wrapping a modern chassis and reliable V8 in show stopping aesthetics, is a ground-up build that combines the core strengths of original hot rodding with an uncompromising vision and top-notch componentry. And, if you're looking to score a fully sorted custom that mixes classic good looks with proven road manners, it's a strong candidate for your next street rod! The original car body has been replaced with fiberglass, however the fenders, running boards, bumpers have been shaved, and the front windshield has been chopped, and now we have a classic hot rod ready to take on anything that comes along.

Exterior
With chromed Super Bell front end framed by the original hood and side cowls and a shield shape horizontal ribbed radiator cover, this rod presents low and mean. A simple bar now for the front bumper, and chromed headlights, you are styling in late 1940's hot rod looks. A long swooping fiberglass reproduction door makes its way rearward and ends in a curled under fiberglass trunk lid that has a very small single bar rear bumper hanging below. Extra-large 3-inch chrome exhaust tips peek out from under and are flanked by small bullet style taillights. A nicely preserved convertible top in black cloth with a glass rear window covers the cockpit. Contrasting red steel wheels with chromed Ford dog dish caps are wrapped by big 255/70R15 Silvertown tires on the back, and 165R15's on the front, complete with wide white sidewalls.

Interior
Utilizing the electronic door actuators, we swing the suicide doors open and are met with a fine mix of black tuck and roll inserts and red bolsters, all in luxurious and sporty leather. This bench seat floats in a sea of beautiful red carpet. A banjo style steering wheel fronts a black sprayed metal dash, that has a central machine swirl pattern aluminum oval gauge cluster. This is complete with a few warning lights, and several toggles and pulls hanging below and an AM/FM/CD player. A Lokar shifter sits proudly in the center hump.

Drivetrain
The 350ci Chevrolet crate motor has been all polished and spit shined and fit neatly under the cowled hood. It is equipped with Brodix heads and intake and is topped by an Edelbrock 600 series 4-barrel carburetor. A B&M TH400 3-speed automatic transmission has been bolted on to the back of this beautiful mill, and it sends power rearward to a 10-bolt pumpkin.

Undercarriage
Straight sturdy sprayed black steel makes up the frame and attached to it we see a chromed Pete & Jakes upper front end. Speaking of the frame it has been powder coated. Some nice red attachments are peppering the underside as well as a stainless-steel exhaust system. Power discs upfront and power drums on the rear are also noted.

Drive-Ability
This car lit quickly and idled super smoothly. Pop it into gear and I was off into the wild blue yonder (actually the Classic Auto Mall test area) where I found this car to run nicely, steer easily, and come to a stop quickly. Just a bit of a stiff ride, but the handling one gets from this setup, is worth the teeth rattling. Visibility was overall good despite the chopping.

This classic hot rod looker with its suicide doors and lack of extra weight is a runner harking back to another hot rod era. The color combo is beautiful and carries throughout, even on the undercarriage. No fenders and wide whites, and I'm waiting for the arm to drop.
