Description for Ford F-100 1965

With the ability to handle the biggest of big blocks, rear-wheel-drive, a reasonable power-to-weight ratio, and comfortable, minimalist interiors, pickup trucks are the new muscle cars. This 1965 Ford F100 Custom Cab kind of proves the point, what with a 460 under the hood, an attention-grabbing color combo, fat radials all around, and a pugnacious stance that clearly advertises its performance intentions.

In the years before pickup trucks grew into personal luxury vehicles, they offered tidy proportions that work quite well with a few custom touches. This Ford has a great look, especially with the bright Garnet Red (borrowed from an '88-'89 GM pickup truck) paint job that seems to highlight the interesting sheetmetal that Ford built into every one of its trucks. Dig the aggressively flared front fenders, the clamshell hood, and, of course, those fat fenders out back that are a big part of the look of a step-side pickup. Finish work is very good all around, and while this truck may have led a blue collar life at one time, you certainly wouldn't know that now. There's still plenty of chrome and brightwork that plays beautifully up against the paint, including nicely finished bumpers fore and aft, a cool grille, bright side mirrors, and correct badges all around (the Blue Oval 'Ford' on the tailgate is a removable decal) that suggest this truck is still ready to get the job done and look great whilst ding it. The bed is beautifully finished with darkly stained wooden planks and bright chrome slats, and the inner panels were painted to match the rest of the truck. All-in-all, this a slick '65 with a lot of curb appeal and plenty of street presence that really turns heads.

The red-and-black interior is a perfect complement to the Garnet Red body, and it shows a little flair that's picked up by the door panels that show a bit of chrome to go with the black vinyl. The vinyl-covered bench seat is in great shape with no splits or tears, and when you're perched up there, you have a commanding view of the road. The dashboard is basic, but all the original gauges are fully functional, and they're set inside an absolutely beautiful machine-turned bezel that really pops off the dashboard and brings a lot of style to the cab. A column shifter manages the TH350 3-speed automatic below, and it's joined on the column by a neat 3-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel. The factory AM radio is still in the dash, but it isn't currently working so an upgrade will be needed here if you want some entertainment. Still, this one remains a very comfortable and functional truck, so the floors are covered in rubber mats that make sweeping out the passenger compartment painless.

Power comes from a brutally tough 460 cubic inch V8 that was swapped in from 1978 model. The big block makes incredible torque and is surprisingly smooth, and with all that added "juice" under the hood, it has that distinctive sound that will strike fear into lesser vehicles. An Edelbrock 4-barrel carb and aluminum intake handle the fuel side, with stock-style exhaust manifolds and dual cherry-bombs managing the exhaust. The big block is planted in a clean, well-maintained engine bay, with Ford Blue valve covers and matching open-element air cleaner for a cool monochromatic effect. An FMX 3-speed automatic feeds the heavy-duty rear end, so it's still up for hauling gear or you race car on a trailer like all trucks should. The front suspension is Ford's indestructible twin I-beam setup, which was living under pickups until 1997, and rolling stock consists of slick chrome Pacer wheels wrapped in 255/60/15 blackwall radials.

Very handsome with plenty of style, this F100 is a surprisingly quick piece of old iron that will bring a smile to people's faces when they see it. Go ahead and put it to work, even if only on weekends at the local Home Depot. Call today!
