Description for Ford 40 1933
1933 Ford 40 Coupe
The great thing about the evolution of hot rodding is: over the past 30 years a vast array of excellent products have continually streamed onto the market. And presently, anyone with a check book and an affinity for going way too fast and looking way too good can build anything from state-of-the-art avant-garde to old school cool. This sweet Ford coupe, wrapping a modern chassis and reliable V8 in show stopping aesthetics, is a ground-up build that combines the core strengths of original hot rodding with an uncompromising vision and top-notch componentry. And, if you're looking to score a fully sorted custom that mixes classic good looks with proven road manners, it's a strong candidate for your next street rod!
For consignment a snappy Torch Red exterior, pop doors, one-off leather interior, VDO glowing red night vision gauges and a 350ci crate engine, we are in a Ford 40 in top notch hot rod form.
Exterior
With body courtesy of Downs, we see a Rootlieb 3-piece steel hood flanked by King Bee headlights, and that swooping sexy Alumacraft grille leading the way. A little chop for the top, a button for the door pop, and 15 inch Weld Billet Wheels, it was enough to make me stop...and gaze into hot rod show trophy land. On the rear, the taillights have been shaved and are now integrated angled small vertical bar groups. Peeking out from below are dual exhaust with chromed tips. Any angle you view this car is just curvealicious eye candy with nary a bite out of any surfaces. Marlene Dietrich has nothing on the visual of this car, although could have been its inspiration.
Interior
A pop of the suicide door, and we see nothing but cool custom leather fashioned in to bucket seats, and wrapping a steering wheel on top of an Ididit tilt column. Doors are custom leather panels with plenty of embossing, and a simple actuator exit knob. In the center of the buckets is a slim leather covered console which houses the power window toggles. Moving forward is the dash we see the tall gear shift lever, and an added in central dash panel which houses a Pioneer Super Tuner stereo, machined knobs and controls for the Vintage air. A centrally located custom machined aluminum gauge cluster houses dual round gauges in the center, and 2 duos of half-moon black faced gauges growing out from those rounds. Wonderful tan carpet covers the floors and in the headliner a sunroof has been added. A note to the trunk which is also lined in leather.
Drivetrain
A gleaming chromed 350ci crate engine has a diamond like finish with plenty of facets of chromed add ons, and a Edelbrock performer RPM intake with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor. This is all backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic, and noted are 3.00 gears in the rear axle.
Undercarriage
Also bathed in Torch Red arer the floorpans and underpinnings, a clean Downs chassis, with a-arms and coilovers on all 4 corners. Braided lines all over, and a Flowmaster exhaust snakes its way past all the gleaming red and black. Rack and pinion steering and disc brakes for the front, and drums for the rear. Nearly as nice as the upside!
Drive-Ability
A joy to drive with plenty of ergonomically fashioned interior, the air blows cold and the engine runs hot (not literally but figuratively). A stiff ride, but a good cruiser.
Not unlike driving a piece of Brancusi sculpture, with nary a straight line seen on this car, just sexy beautiful curves to feast your eyes on. An overall beautiful hot rod, and plenty of attention to detail during the build. Definitely done right, and modeled after a supermodel from the 1930's.
