Description for Ford Mustang GT500 1968

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this exceedingly rare 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500! This incredible find comes in a period correct red paint job complemented by a clean black interior. Powering the GT500 is believed to be the original 428 4-valve V8 engine mated to a smooth shifting automatic transmission. A motor refresh was recently completed on the 428 to include all new gaskets, pushrods, lifters, tune up and a good compression test. Standard features of the Mustang include power steering, power brakes, working stereo and more. This vehicle also comes with a Marti report showing this to be a true GT500 as well as various factory upgrades such as the extra cooling package. The Mustang comes to us from an elite private collection. As such the vehicle has been properly maintained and stored. Holy Grail vehicles such as this do not come to market very often. So don't miss out on scooping this one up because you may never find another like it. Please call or email us today for more information.
The Shelby Mustang is a high-performance variant of the Ford Mustang which was built by Shelby American from 1965 to 1968, and from 1969 to 1970 by Ford. Following the introduction of the fifth generation Ford Mustang in 2005, the Shelby nameplate was revived as a new high-performance model, this time designed and built by Ford. Beginning in April 1968, Ford began factory installing a version of the 428 engine known as the "Cobra Jet". The GT500 was subsequently known as The Cobra GT500 KR. The initials KR stood for "King of the Road." Ford rated the Cobra jet at 335 hp, but with 440 lbâ‹…ft of torque at 3,400 rpm, the horsepower was considered significantly under reported. Shelby's KR engine was left stock adding die-cast aluminum valve covers with "Cobra Lemans" to note Ford's FE engine family victory over Ferrari at Le Mans in 1966 and 1967.
