Description for Ford Roadster 1932
1932 Ford Roadster
If you grew up in post-war America daydreaming about hot rods, jalopies and everything that goes along with them, you saw these deuces everywhere: on the covers of magazines, albums, in ads and on TV. There's probably been at least one at every car show you've ever attended. Extremely popular and a favorite of hot rodders to tear apart, and even replicated by numerous companies in fiberglass form. The deuce.
For consignment a Gibbons American Dream fendered and running boarded deuce with tow tone paint, a 2-inch chopped windshield and some snappy chrome put on for exterior bling. This color combo kind of reminds me of a wing tipped shoe, stepping out on the town and turning heads with its metallic highlights.
Exterior
The curvy fenders and running boards are covered in a base coat of Chrysler Dark Cordovan then a clear coat. These Cordovan colored parts also show a light metal flake and are smooth and shiny. The tub and front and rear cowls are bathed in black and are about 2 miles deep. Chrome adornments pepper this car and show shiny and mirror like. Among areas of interest to the chrome are the front vertical ribbed grille, headlights and fender mounting bar, shocks windshield and rear taillight bezels which look like two cat eyes peering out the back of the car. Ford badged dog dish wheel covers have a surrounding of wide whites and pristine treaded rubber.
Interior
Oxblood Red vinyl in pleated stuffed form covers the bench seat, and the door panels. A custom black dash has snazzy gauges which run horizontally and descend in size as they fan out to either side of the center. These have gold bezels and white faces and look fab in that black metal background. A tilt steering column with a modern banjo style rally steering wheel are seen in front of this dash. Black carpet covers the floors, and a Carson 1-piece hardtop comes with this car.
Drivetrain
A crate CMR 350 ci V8 circa 1974 now sits in the cramped but clean engine bay. This mill is topped with a 4-barrel Edelbrock carb, and also an Edelbrock intake manifold. TH400 which is a 3-speed automatic is the transmission and a Ford 8-inch rear axle is affixed.
Undercarriage
Underneath the frame and body is looking rust free and structurally sound. Transverse leaf springs are upfront and Chromed coilers are on the rear. Power disc brakes are upfront, and power drums are on the rear. A glass pack exhaust gives this deuce a nice roar.
Drive-Ability
Surprisingly comfortable, it starts right up, and we were off to the test track. This car handles like it's on rails and accelerates very nicely. It is a fairly smooth ride, and all simple accessories were functioning as they should. On our return it came to an abrupt halt safely with its power brakes.
A beautiful color combination, a "Deuce" with fenders (a rare thing here at Classic Auto Mall) and all buttoned up engine and interior wise. This Gibbons body is in fine shape and the consigner states that during the build all new parts were utilized. Hop in turn the key and have some fun!
