Description for Ford Fairlane 1955

1955 Ford Fairlane

The Ford Fairlane is an automobile model that was sold between 1955 and 1970 by Ford in North America. The name is derived from Henry Ford's estate, Fair Lane, near Dearborn, Michigan. Over time, the name referred to a number of different cars in different classes; the Fairlane was initially a full-sized car but became a mid-sized car from the 1962 model year.

For consignment, a basket handle version of a buttoned up 1955 Ford Fairlane. Simple one tone paint, lots of chrome and a swoop spear, fender skirts, snappy Ford badged 5 spoke rally wheels, and a pristine interior. Mirroring a time of free spirits, the advent of rock and roll, greasers, leather jackets and blue jeans and girls in poodle skirts. Happy days fer sur! Let's burn some rubber daddy-o.

Exterior
With its straight rust free steel slabbed panels sculpted into a swept back design, emphasized by the swoop spear on the sides, and the rear leaning basket handle trim on the roof, this car is moving forward while standing still. A few bumps, areas of wearing thin and very minor underlying rust spots are duly noted and mainly insignificant. An ultra wide B pillar extending from the basket handle and framing the curved rear glass, topping the rear quarters on its way rearward your competition is cruising for a bruisin' from this cool cat. For the rear taillights think T bird with the dawn of the jet age design. Nice chromed bumpers on front and rear and also on the rear dual exhaust tips protruding from the bottom and pumping out the volume! This all bathed in deep fire engine red with its badging and trimmings its well on its way to razz my berries.

Interior
More red and this time in vinyl, and not the kind you put on your Hi Fi, but a split back bench with some tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters. This plays out for the rear bench as well and I have thoughts of cruising to the drive in and parking in the passion pit area...SCORE! More red for the one fan bump housing the speedo metal dash just wonderfully restored, all snazzy and buttoned, along with an aftermarket column mounted tachometer which emulates the round temp control to its immediate right side. Replacing the original juke box is an aftermarket SONY Am/FM/Cassette radio neatly inserted into the red dash. Red carpet (of course!) floods the floors and is nearly perfect as is the felt headliner. Some wear is on the sun visors, but when you flip them down, you'll never see it! A shout out to the door panels looking all cool, and the trunk with plenty of room to sneak friends into the drive in, but the back seat is otherwise reserved for me and my squeeze and her classy chassis.

Drivetrain
Power has it made in the shade with a newer 292ci V8 all painted and polished to perfection under the hood. This mill sports 312 heads and has mostly new parts and only 5K miles on it. On back is a rebuilt numbers matching original automatic transmission. Very neato!

Undercarriage
Showing slight surface rust on the frame, and light corrosion on the rockers as well as light sprinkling of surface rust on the usual suspects, the undercarriage remains solid. Drum brakes for all 4 corners, and for the front suspension we see independent; Angle-Poised ball-joint system; rubber-bushed tilted, transverse-link-type; tailored-to-weight coil springs; tubular shock absorbers; rubber-bushed, 3-piece ride stabilizer. For the rear tubular shocks and leaf springs. Very simple underneath.

Drive-Ability
I grabbed my chick and we both nestled into the front seat on the driver's side and we went for a cruise. The car performs beautifully starting in a flash and taking off in one too! Runs fab, and the original automatic tranny shifts smoothly. Highway cruising was comfortable at low RPMs, and handling was good enough to keep my babe glued next to me.

A visual trip back in time to 1955 with its plethora of chromed trimmings, the basket handle as an extra eye catcher, and overall beautiful red, red, red outside and in. A snappy job, a cool car, and a throwback in great condition. Lighting up the tilt sign right here in the hallowed halls of Classic Auto Mall.
