Description for Ford Galaxie 1961
1961 Galaxie StarlinerOne Owner Black Plate California CarMostly Original Black PaintMostly Original InteriorExcellent Running Solid Lifter 390Cast Iron Headers & Factory Holley CarburetorFactory Aluminum Intake ManifoldFactory Dual Point Distributor3 Speed Manual with OverdriveExtremely Solid Original BodyBrand New 15" Torque Thrust WheelsBrand New Cooper Cobra TiresThe Starliner was a rare version of the Galaxie made to compete visually with the 'Bubble Top' Impalas. This one was a life-long California car, as noted by the original 'Black Plates'. Still wearing much of its original paint it is quite impressive. Obviously there are scratches, nicks & dings from a nearly 60 year old paint job. What you will not find is any rust beyond some very minor surface issues. Since the paint is original (beyond the hood, driver's fender and cowl panel) there are no signs of repair or replacement. The panels are quite straight & line up nicely. Even the bumpers & moldings are nice. This one is easily nice enough to drive as is and enjoy the originality and repaint it later.Inside the interior is in pretty good condition with the obvious wear shown, see pics. The headliner is showing the worst wear and could use a replacement.Under the hood the 390 is a solid lifter version with a factory Aluminum Intake, factory Ford Holley Carburetor, factory Dual Point Distributor and 427 Style Cast Iron Headers. The engine runs excellent. The exhaust is older but is begging to be replaced by some larger pipes & modern mufflers. This car could be one of the ultra rare 375 horsepower versions with the above parts. Without proper documentation however it can not be proven. The 3 speed transmission shifts properly and is equipped with a 4th gearoverdrive unit. This is a factory unit controlled with a dash switch. The original full throttle overdrive-disengage switch is still located on the firewall. The tires and wheels are brand new American Racing Torque Thrusts with Cooper Cobra tires. The fronts are 15x7 with 245 60's while the rears are 15x8 with 275 60's that fit perfectly. For transport we recommend Mike's Discount Auto Transport.
