Description for Ford Roadster 1932
1932 Ford Roadster
And now for something completely different... An old school 1932 Ford Roadster. An original 1950's build that still pops today, this is what a 1932 roadster looked like down at the drive in in circa 1958. I certainly did not see this one coming....
For consignment, the beneficiary of a restoration and hop up in the late 1950's when the car was purchased from its original owner. Later in time (1989) our consigner set out to power up this car, all the while retaining the original look. Fiberglass fenders now replace the originals, and lacquer paint shows slight cracking, but she holds up well from this rebuild in 1989 which brought this particular mid 50's tastefully restored in 1958 hot rod back from the dead.
Exterior
Just like it would have come from Henry's plant the layout and design of the car oozes 1930's. Now fiberglass fenders adorn this car and within their confines is a lot of straight rust free steel. The running boards are metal with stainless steel gripping strips embedded within. A cowled hood (open on either side) and a gorgeous radiator surround, passenger tub complete with two doors and a white convertible top with all new stainless steel forming structure underneath it, tops the iconic designed body. On back the rounded over rear deck has the correct tail lighting on the rear roll panel, and a pristine shiny bumper running from side of rear fender to side of rear fender. A chromed exhaust pipe is jutting through the bodywork below just south of the bumper, and it does this twice. All dressed in beautiful red lacquer, some of the paint is showing some cracking and crazing due to the lacquer top coating instability. The top down and hood cowl removed it now looks the part of a hot rod, but still maintains a modicum of originality and tastefulness as well an appreciation for the original. Red wheels are adorned with shiny moon caps with FORD badging in red in the centers of them, and some snazzy deep dish trim rings on the edges all bordered by wide white tires.
Interior
Starting with a good base of beautiful black thick pile carpeting, we can then float 2 like new white vinyl covered and extra padded low back buckets for driver and passenger. The dash is made up of red painted steel with a rolled over top edge and brass plates inserted in front engraved with a Sheridan styled pattern. In the center is the oval gauge cluster surround made from stainless, and it has a mini diamond quilted pattern and all new white faced gauges with brass surrounds. On the red background this color combination is candy to the eye. A wood rimmed, drilled 3 spoke steering wheel fronts this work of art dash, and to drivers right is the shift lever rising proudly towards the driver's hands.
Drivetrain
Removal of the hood and presenting the star of this auto show, we see a 239ci Flathead V8 which has been bored over .100. This engine has aftermarket Offenhauser aluminum heads, a dual 2-barrel carb setup topping an Edelbrock Super Intake manifold. A 3-speed manual transmission with new synchronizers makes the tires spin along with its partner in crime a 3.54 rear axle. Headers are seen as is nice clean and organized wiring throughout, a stainless steel polished firewall, and all clean black bolt ons and I would not put those side cowls on either!
Undercarriage
Looking like the day it was restored, no rust or even road dirt. New wheel cylinders, master cylinder and brake linings with new hoses now filled with silicone fluid. Transverse leaf springs are on all the front and rear as are drum brakes. Just a beautiful presentation for the judges to give the blue ribbon to for the undercarriage.
Drive-Ability
We had fun fun fun till our super took our deuce away, but found out it drives great, is a comfortable cruiser at highway speeds, and has all buttoned up mechanicals.
A real eye catcher with the white top up, it attracts positive attention and those wide whites do not spoil it for anyone either. Original build was in the 1950's and our current consigner brought it back to life looking much like the original but with reliability that is off the charts. Just a touch of fiberglass on the fenders, and all rust free straight steel appearing as a 1932 Ford Roadster. Come and get it the bell is ringing...
