Description for Ford Elite 1976

  • Real nice, unmolested survivor. The Elite was a stand alone model for just 2 years. It is nearly identical to the Torino and Torino Elite. It was advertised as a luxury coupe.
  • This car comes with the optional 400 cu. in. engine that puts out 180HP (not bad for the malaise era) and an impressive 338 lb-ft of torque. The automatic transmission is a 3 speed and was the only option.
  • Other factory options include dual color-coded sport mirrors, performance gauges, A/C, and cruise control. The A/C seems to be in working order as the compressor cycles properly but it doesn't blow cold. Probably just needs a recharge or convert to R-134a. The cruise control works just fine.
  • The car starts, runs, rides, handles, and brakes properly. No smoke, no weird noises. Reliable enough to use a daily driver.
  • The 2bbl carb was rebuilt over the summer.
  • New parts include: battery, windshield ($475!), muffler and exhaust from the y-pipe on back, spark plugs and wires, rear air-shocks.
  • All exterior lights work, interior lights need a couple bulbs.
  • Headliner and rear seat are perfect. Front seats are near perfect. One center armrest has a 1" tear and top side edge of driver seat has a split seam about 2" long. Top of dash has a 5" crack but not very noticeable.
  • All gauges work except for the clock and trip-odometer.
  • Tires have about 40% tread left but are old and should be replaced soon.
  • There are no major rust issues. The rear wheel wells (going in to the trunk) had 2 small holes but they have been patched and sealed.
  • Paint is original and has lots of gloss and no major blemishes or dents.
  • Weather-stripping is in great shape and the car is water tight. The half vinyl top has deteriorated and should be replaced.
