Description for Ford Other Pickups 1931
1931 Ford Pickup
The Ford Model A also colloquially called the A-Model Ford or the A, and A-bone among rodders and customizers was the Ford Motor Company's second market success after its predecessor the Model T. First produced on October 20, 1927, but not introduced until December 2, it replaced the venerable Model T, which had been produced for 18 years. This new Model A (a previous model had used the name in 190304) was designated a 1928 model and was available in four standard colors.
Here's something one does not see everyday, and I have to say it's certainly impressive enough that it's surprising one does not see more of them. A unique pickup truck hot rod right out of Henry's factory from 1931. Queue up the bluegrass music, polish the red wheels with wide whites, and light the triple stacked V8 we are goin for one helluva ride! Also, we can haul something in back, but for right now it's gonna be just ass.
Exterior
Suede Blue metal slabs adorn the exterior from the engine bay on back to the bed. This cab sports a swing out windshield for some extra airflow and a drilled metal visor across the top. Within the mini rear bed which is covered with a red tuck and roll vinyl panel, when removed reveals a wood bed with a fuel cell inserted in the middle. The metal gate remains and the matte body with some dents and dings which adds character, has blue flourishes in pinstripe getup all around. Up front from the open motor no hood or cowl is just a shiny radiator upfront with a flying lady topper. Flanking this radiator is a single headlight hanging off the mid section on either side. Fender-less corners with red steel wheels which have chromed wheel nut surrounds and a bullet center cap with a shiny outer trim ring. These are wrapped in wide whites in the form of 6.70-15's in front and 8.90-15's on back.
Interior
Take your pick either from a red vinyl bench seat or if you're taller than 5'8" you may want to opt for the bomber seats which offer up more leg room. This truck will come with both. Tuck and roll red panels for the doors and toe kick areas inside, and red carpet for the floors. The original dash has been modified with a ribbed cast aluminum Champion gauge cluster with black faced and white numbered styling. A Suede Blue painted dash front with more pinstriped flourishes, and a metal red painted dash topper and all this fronted by a rally wood rimmed steering wheel. A centrally located tall shift lever with an 8 ball round topper is rising from the red carpet next to the driver, and a tachometer is attached to the front of its boot.
Drivetrain
All open and for all the world to gaze upon, a 283ci V8 with a nicely painted block in red, plenty of chromed bolt ons, and Edelbrock horizontal ribbed valve covers...it's a sight to behold. Obviously screaming at you are the triple stacks ascending upwards as they move toward the windshield, slapped on top of an Offenhauser intake manifold and facilitate air flow into 3- 2-barrel Rochester 2 jet carbs. These stacks have red paint inside just for some extra bling. On the back is a TH350 3-speed automatic. Black powder coated headers snake into a single large side pipe which decides to end early right on front of the doors and just past the red painted firewall.
Undercarriage
Underneath is pristine with no rust or even road dirt, it's a showpiece. Up front are transverse leaf springs with no front shocks. You might refer to this as a suicide front axle keeping it simple. On back is a 4 bar setup, all bolted to a solid black powder coated frame. Drum brakes are all around and all is buttoned up underneath 'fer shur'.
Drive-Ability
Hopping inside, this triple threat candle lit right up. It has a great sound and is certainly loud enough for any taste. Smooth seemingly unending acceleration, decent handling, and tight steering. Brakes are solid, and driving is very easily performed with the automatic tranny.
This star of magazine (see Gears 'n Gals) and YouTube screen (see Hot Rod Dirty), with its highlight in those stacks, open engine, wide whites with steel wheels, no fenders and a flying lady topped shiny radiator surround, all in pickup form, you will be the only one on your block to have one. Contrary to the blue suede shoe song by Elvis....STEP on it!! And just S M I L E :-)
