Description for Ford Mustang 1970
1970 Mustang Sportsroof drag racing roller. No engine or transmission. No title, Bill of Sale only. Hood and trunk lid are lightweight 'glass, the rest of the body steel. Side windows (and rear backlight) are plastic and do not roll down. Brand new Carlite logo tinted windshield, set on weatherstrip without glue in case you want to start restoring right away. New skinny street tires (with an awesome name) to just roll onto the trailer (or maybe future slow cruising action?). Built to run on 9.90 index, so certified 8-point roll cage.According to the Marti Report attached above, this car was originally a plain 302 fastback in Dark Ivy Green Metallic, would have been lovely in this typical seventies color.*
I had planned to put it back to original appearance with a 427W, but need to raise capital for a business venture instead. Could be returned to race duty - or maybe a street driven nostalgia drag or 80s Pro-Street car? Lots of options. Looks to be a fairly solid body. The only bad rust appears on the quarter near the driver's door, but I honestly have no idea what lies beneath the "50 footer" paint, being a classic Mustang, all prone to rust. Needs at least cowl work since the cowl is 'glassed over and the rear taillight panel is just for looks, flimsy racecar style. I fixed a tiny hole in the corner of the windshield channel with metal and weld, overall looked good all around there, though.
I took the fender off to photograph the matching numbers on the fender apron, as you can see it looks sound under there, too.
It was purchased a few years back from a gentleman racer from Baton Rouge, LA competing in IHRA with a built 351W and C4 combo. Told him to hold onto the driveline as I wasn't planning on going racing anyway. An extra set of painted bumpers and a driveshaft came and come with the car.
*If the buyer is interested paint and body and metal work can be contracted with me after the sale, hourly rate plus the cost of all materials, including sandpaper. Not cheap, for only the highest show quality with the best paint and materials.
