One look at the legendary Ford GT40 and the first term that comes to mind is "cruise missile". With a slippery shape and razor-edge lines that are every bit as wind cheating as they are alluring the car LIVES to run; and anything less than triple-digit speeds is just a waste of its time! Built by Nostalgia Motorcars Ltd. of Rock Hill South Carolina and recently serviced by Automotive International of Charlotte North Carolina this CAV GT40 is about as close to riding a bullet as you can get. And with less than 200 miles on its bright digital odometer it's a fresh fully sorted track machine that's ready to rock and roll! Looking for a legitimate continuation of Ford's original super car? Looking for a clean classic that's capable of almost inconceivable levels of performance? This incredible coupe is your ultimate thrill ride!

BODYWORK/TRIM

It's likely that the extreme purpose-built nature of the GT40 doesn't really occur to most people until they see one up close. At just 40 inches tall the driver is more or less lying in the cockpit rather than sitting. And that low-slung profile combined with the car's buckled down nose and sawed off tail creates one wicked looking custom! As a highly authentic replica of Ford's original GT40 this killer CAV utilizes a durable Vinylester body which is much stronger than traditional resin to create a fully sealed noise-free sports car. That body the product of 200 man-hours of skilled hand shaping is mocked to its chassis long before the car hits final assembly. And that Vinylester surface adds both form and function by stiffening the car's frame during hard cornering and presenting a smooth canvas for top notch 2-stage. Speaking of top-notch paint sprayed in-house and buffed to a brilliant shine this Ford's contemporary and timeless coat of True Blue pigment creates classic aesthetics that will keep fans marveling. And while it isn't easy to create a world-class show stopper out of complex resin shapes the car's excellent build is a true testament to the 600 man-hours of labor invested by its first rate manufacturer.

While this stunning Ford is best experienced in the flesh look closely at our high resolution photos and you'll be able to see the amount of accurate and impressive detailing that was carefully baked in to the car's classic design. Up front a slightly canted nosepiece which provides cooling and triple-digit downforce stacks correct Cibie headlights clear driving lamps and chrome-trimmed parking lights behind aerodynamic Lexan covers. Behind those lamps a deep diffuser funnels wind across polished Monza-style fuel fillers and a tinted windshield that's cleared by a street legal wiper. Behind that windshield vented Lexan side windows occupy traditional guillotine-style doors that are equipped with flush-fitting satin-finished handles. At the back of those doors sculpted fenders hang massive air intakes between satin-finished cowl hinges. Between those fenders a Lexan engine cover displays the car's "COBRA" branded mill in front of satin-finished heat dissipaters and a seamless ducktail spoiler. And below those dissipaters dual-mode tail lamps frame a metal valance that's centered on traditional exhaust pipes.

ENGINE

By law specialty vehicle companies like CAV America are not allowed to sell their cars with complete drivetrains. But they'll gladly provide suggestions that range from stoplight spooky to racetrack scary! Looking for the perfect blend of power and streetability the owner of this coupe decided to opt for a reliable 302 cubic inch Ford small block that was assembled by the techs at Nostalgia Motorcars Ltd. of Rock Hill South Carolina. The long-rod mill's energy mixture is supplied by four 2-barrel Weber carbs which are dressed in small air filters and braided fluid lines. That mixture travels in to free-breathing heads which hang aluminum "COBRA" branded valve covers over 7mm Standard Plus plug wires that are snapped onto an aftermarket points distributor. Heat is kept in check by an aluminum cross-flow radiator that's fitted with two SPAL puller fans. Spent gases are cycled through eight stainless steel pipes that correctly mimic Ford's original 'bundle of snakes' exhaust. And from its chrome breathers all the way to its deep-sump oil pan this clean small block is lean mean and 100% ready to roll.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

The bottom of this modern GT40 is as simple as it is technical with the car's entire undercarriage save for the engine and transmission being covered in black aerodynamic belly pans. The chassis is a TIG-welded stainless monocoque which rides on a fully independent suspension. Turns come courtesy of manual rack-and-pinion steering which leads aggressive suspension geometry adjustable anti-roll bar linkages 16 adjustable rose joints and fully adjustable Competition coil-overs. Stops are provided by a power-assisted PBR brake system which makes good use of four billet calipers braided fluid lines and four 300mm vented rotors. Behind the engine you'll find a tough hydraulic clutch which bumps a rugged Getrag 5-speed that was sourced directly from Audi. All that track prowess grips through 15-inch Halibrands which twist 235/60 Dunlop G/T Qualifier Radials in front of 295/50 Dunlop G/T Qualifier Radials. And the chassis' stiffness is greatly aided by a whole roster of precision parts that includes CNC-punched panels laser-cut suspension components and stiff billet aluminum uprights.

INTERIOR

Naturally this Ford's interior is every bit as nice as its lightweight shell. Step over the car's 9.5-gallon FIA-approved fuel cells and you'll find original-style bucket seats that wear upgraded leather surfaces under authentic brass grommets and modern Simpson race harnesses. In front of those seats a stitched dash hangs clean VDO telemetry above correct Lucas switches and an original-style adjustable pedal box. At the bottom of the car clean carpet frames a dressed tunnel which centers a small leather-wrapped shifter in front of a Wilwood proportioning valve. Above that carpet original-style Hartswell hardware secures light doors which feature basic panels and small Lexan vent windows. In front of the driver an aluminum steering wheel spins a thick black rim. And behind the passengers a broad Lexan window provides constant monitoring of the car's potent firepower. Everything in this purpose-built racer is virtually new from its carpet all the way to its headliner. And with the addition of a few street friendly refinements the simplistic cockpit has become a surprisingly comfortable place to spend a fun day at the track.
