Description for Ford Fairlane 1968
68 Fairlane wagon runs drivesand looks good. I would give this about a 6 from (1 to 10 ) for paint and interior. The paint was done several years ago at a vocational school ( the man I bought the car from was the teacher)so it is a fair paint job but not great. The interior is original and in decent shape the head liner has been sewn above the drivers seat (see picture) and the front seat has been sewn on the edge of the drivers side.Other then these two things the interior is pretty good. The engine and trans run and shift goodit has a new two barrel carb and new dual exhaust with flow masters sound good.It has been changed to front disc brakes with a power booster and has power steering it drives and stops well.
The body has a couple of spots where the paint is starting to bubble one on the tailgate and one on the left rear bottom quarter behind the wheel (see pictures). The worst place I found was under the battery box on the right front where the bumper bracket attaches it was rusted from battery acid spilling down in there.I cut this out and repaired it with new metal and painted it with under coating ( see picture ). The floor pans and the rest of the underneath are in good conditionthe tires and wheels came off my 39 Ford and have less then 10k miles on them. I have almost a gallon of basecoat paint that goes with the car if you want to repaint it.You would just need the clear.
The gentleman I bought this from was getting it ready to go on the Hot Rod Power Tour a few years ago but something happened and he did not go so it sat covered in his shed for about 2 years without being run. I charged the battery and cleaned the carb last fall and have been driving it some since then.It runs smooth on the road with no problems so far. It has an 8 inch rear end with 3.00 gear.
I am a small dealer in Abingdon Va. and have been in business for 36 years in same locationI am somewhat retired now but still enjoy driving and selling old cars.If you buy this car and do not like it when you come to pick it up you do not have to take it .The only thing you will loose is your time.
