Description for GMC Suburban 1991
This is a classic GMC Suburban 4x4. It is lifted 6-8 inches with x35 large tires and essentially looks like a mountain monster truck. Though it needs some body work and paint it is nearly perfect mechanically. In-spite of having nearly 200K miles it burns no oil. always starts even in the coldest weather and runs absolutely great! In the 6 years I have owned it it has never failed me or broken down on me even once. I acquired it six years ago in 1998 from the original owner who was a personal acquaintance. It most sat for four years and I started driving it on a regular basis in summer of 2013 at which time I took it on a long trip from Colorado to the West Coast and back during which time it performed flawlessly even when driving across hot deserts all day. It has an aftermarket oversize fan and always runs cool summer and winter. Items I have replaced since summer 2013: Windshield. windshield wipers. serpentine belt. a leaky power steering hose. spark plugs. spark plug wires and I put a new Flowmaster muffler on it this past summer. All the electric windows work except for the rear tailgate window which has a burned-out motor that needs to be replaced. In-spite of 200K miles it burns no oil to speak of - I keep the oil fresh and run straight 40 wt. in it most of the time. When first started cold it blows a momentary puff of blue smoke indicative that it needs valve seal replacement. The 4x4 running gear works perfectly insofar as I can tell and I have yet to find a spot in the mountains. summer or winter. where it can't go. Because of the overdrive transmission and the really big tires it gets nearly 20 mpg on the highway which is exceptional for a V8 truck of this era yet always has plenty of acceleration power. With a 31 gallon tank it has a range of 500 miles on a single tank of fuel on the highway. Given how well it runs and how well it has been mechanically maintained throughout its life it is a good investment for somebody who doesn't care about cosmetics or who doesn't mind investing in an overhaul and some cosmetics at some point. I do have to add a tube of Dr. Tranny 'Instant Shudder Fix' to the transmission periodically to eliminate torque converter shudder in overdrive but otherwise the transmission works perfectly and still hits all shift points right on the numbers. It is currently in the Aspen area but I will be happy to deliver it in-person to anywhere on the Colorado Front Range.
