Description for GMC Jimmy 1961
I'm listing this vehicle for my old friend. Jerry. He. and the truck. are located in Rogue River. Oregon. not Berkeley. Ca. I'll direct all questions to him. Thanks. Up for sale is one beautiful. rare 1961 GMC Model 1000 truck with 92440 original miles and "Tiki-God Eyes" hood. This was the first year for the 305 V6 motor. I am the 2nd owner having bought the truck in 1978 in Berkeley California. The vehicle had been used on a farm in Stockton CA where it sat in a field for two years before I bought it after the original owner fell ill. His two dogs lived in the cab for that period and ate or chewed every knob in sight. The truck was my main work hauler when I built gates. fences etc. for many years in the S. F. Bay Area taking it to Oregon in 2002. Seven years ago it underwent a bed off (not cab off) restoration leaving the steering wheel alone to remind me of its' history (see photo). Several bad rust issues were repaired at that time along with a professional acrylic enamel green and white paint job which has held up very nicely. The interior was painted silver. I think the outside color used to be Brigade Blue. I added a new Southern Pine bed (as per original) two years ago and replaced the head gaskets along with a valve job. It was the first time the engine had been touched in 34 years. The generator was replaced by an alternator in the mid 80's but other than that the truck is original. including wind-wing delaminating glass. The AM radio still WORKS as does the heater. wipers. all lights. horn etc. The engine runs very smooth. tranny is the 4 speed with granny LOW! Brakes were rebuilt 12 years ago and they along with the tires are in excellent condition. The side boards on the bed are made from redwood milled in 1880 - not the redwood directly behind the cab - but the long sides themselves. Miles driven since the restoration are no more than 1500. During the painting of the dash two wiring pins must have gotten crossed in the connector plug between the harness and back of solid state instrument cluster causing the turn signal lamp on the dash to act as the GEN light and the LOW OIL light in the dash cluster blinks on and off when the turn signals are activated. Such is life. You may send someone to inspect the truck and if needed I can help arrange shipping. We will need a $500. 00 non refundable deposit at close of auction (within 24 hrs) and full payment within one week. Oregon title is clear. Ask me any questions during the auction process. Good luck and happy bidding. On Nov-19-14 at 14:58:51 PST. seller added the following information: Please note: To be clear. this is not the model which GMC calls "Jimmy". It was my mistake in listing the truck and Ebay won't let me change it. This is a GMC 1/2 ton pick-up. "Jimmy" is just a nickname. Sorry for any confusion.
