Description for GMC Typhoon 1992
West Coast Classics is proud to present an absolutely exceptional and stunning example of this original southern California owner 1992 GMC Typhoon 4.3L V6 280HP Turbo with only 78K original miles in truly outstanding condition throughout! Obviously always garaged and owned and driven by only one very careful and mature owner/driver since new - never abused - babied all the way!The GMC Typhoon was part of GM's move into the high performance market for pick ups and SUV's in the early nineties and... started by their crearion of the ultimate pick up, the GMC Syclone in 1991. A year later they continued with this theme with the Typhoon, which although it had a slight loss in performance compared to the Syclone, it more than made up for it with the room for 5 adults plus luggage! The Typhoon used the same underpinnings as the Syclone with a seperate chassis, live rear axle and 11" ABS assisted and vented discs. The engine was from the GMC Jimmy, all cast iron but uprated from the stock 165HP thanks to the intercooled turbo and re-calibrated engine management. The torque was split 65:65 front/rear with a mechanical center differential and viscous couplin, though the live rear axle also boasted a limited slip differential. A 4 speed auto just about handled the torque but a strict warning sticker not to tow the vehicle had to be put inside! All Typhoon's had leather seats and were well equipped. With its sophisticated 4 wheel drive system and wide tires the Typhoon both looked and handled brilliantly. The anti-lock brakes were also extremely effective for a truck, 0-60mph was 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 124mph. Low production and high performance of these limited produced vehicles will ensure collectibility for years to come. The original factory 'Black' color clear-coat paint is in excellent condition and the 'Black & Dark Gray' leather seats are also in excellent condition with virtually no signs of wear and the whole interior is also in exceptional and immaculate condition throughout. Every option is working as it should including the A/C. The car has a current California smog certificate. This particular model was purchased new in Newport Beach, CA by its one and only owner since new. Pride of ownership shows everywhere and it is hard to believe the vehicle has even 78K miles! The engine is extremely strong and responsive, the transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and the temperature always remains cool. Drives virtually like a new vehicle - you could hardly tell the difference! This is one very unique and ridiculously comfortable 4 door sports utility vehicle with ridiculous torque and performance for any sports vehicle and the first year of production in only a two year run (1992-93) with only 4,697 Typhoons ever being built by GMC: 2,497 for 1992, and 2,200 for 1993!This must surely be one of the finest and one very rare example of this renown SUV available anywhere, even with half the miles, a totally unabused and maturely driven model with only one southern California owner since new!
