Description for GMC 100 1951
For sale is my prized 1951 GMC Pickup. This truck was built from the frame up by my grandfather (highly experienced car/truck builder) and I, and has been babied since completion. This goes without saying, but this thing turns heads everywhere it goes. This is a rare chance to own a beautiful, fully road ready 1951 GMC 5-window truck. All the important information will be listed below, but please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
FRAME: An original frame with was sandblasted, prepped, and painted prior to the build.
SUSPENSION: Consists of a Heidts Mustang II IFS with 2” drop spindles up front, and Posies rear lowering springs and saddles (that also center the rear wheel in the well) in the rear.
POWERTRAIN: The truck is powered by a 350 SBC that was rebuilt prior to my purchase and has less than 1000 miles on it since. The 350 is mated to a 700R4 complete with a Rebel lockup kit. Drive shaft is a custom length and was professionally made by CATT in Springfield, MO. The rear end is a 9 bolt rear end out of a third gen Camaro.
BRAKES: Power disc brakes all around with a frame mounted reservoir/booster.
FUEL: New fuel lines, new sending unit, and new factory style cab mounted fuel tank. Fuel gauge works, as does all the instrumentation.
ELECTRICAL/LIGHTING: Entire truck (including original gauges) is 12V and a custom fuse block and wiring harness by Rebel Wire was used. Turn signals work using the tail lights and the GMC exclusive fog lamps. A custom aluminum turn signal indicator is located below the dash to the left of the column and it is fitted with two green LED’s. Headlights and taillights work perfectly and the bright/dimmer switch maintains its factory foot mounted location. Gauge lighting beautifully illuminates the fully working instrumentation and is dimmable via the headlight switch. Dome light works and is wired hot for any needed use with the truck not running. The battery maintains its stock location, but a lead has been ran into the engine compartment for easier jumpstarting/charging if ever needed. Also, a new electric wiper system has been installed to replace the original vacuum system.
STEERING: Limeworks steering wheel connected to a tilt column with lighted indicator, shifter, turn signal controls, and no key/ignition. A custom column mount milled out of aluminum mounts the column to the dash and the original dash dimple for the shifter was filled. All new steering components and support bearings were used and they connect up to the super smooth power steering.
GLASS: All new glass was used with the exception of the corner windows.
RUBBER/INSULATION: All new window rubber, insulation, windlace, fuel neck, small glovebox/door/hood rubber bumpers, etc. were used.
EXTERIOR: Professionally painted in an awesome green that is very rarely seen. Paint code will only be given to the buyer. All exterior emblems are original GMC emblems. Hard to find factory stainless trim around the windows (inside and outside) and windshield.
LOCK/IGNITION: Original key (and one spare) are used on this truck to operate the original working passenger door lock, and the ignition switch. The ignition key is single position and is mounted in its factory location, with a hidden push button start replacing the original floor mounted vacuum starter.
HEAT/AC: An original Harrison “Fresh Air” deluxe heater was restored and has been installed with a new core, new 12V motor, new gaskets, and new lighted heater switch. Original pull knob on the dash works to alternate between defrost and cab heat. All new Vintage Air A/C system installed with the lines and fittings professionally done by Don’s Auto Air in Springfield, MO. A/C system blows ice cold and works flawlessly. For those preferring good old fashioned A/C the windows roll up and down, and the cowl vent and side vent windows are fully functional.
AUDIO: A Kenwood head unit is conveniently installed in the face of the seat surround and is connected to two speakers mounted behind the seat below the corner windows and two speakers hidden behind the dash grille. Enjoy the radio, CD, or AUX tunes from your phone without an ugly modern stereo mounted into the original dash. An included remote means you can working the head unit without having to bend over or look down.
INTERIOR: New original style black headliner and new visors/visor assemblies. Seat is a professionally upholstered bench from an 88-98 Chevy pickup that we modified to fit inside of the original seat surround. The seat is far more comfortable than original because it sits lower, makes full use of the space, and has all new foam. The seat also slides fore and aft for different driver heights, and also tilts forward to give access to the small storage area above the fuel tank. Door panels have not been installed, however vinyl matching the seats was purchased for new door panels and will come with the truck. The original door interior door handles, vent window hardware, and window cranks are present and they all function flawlessly. A new rubber floor mat and side sill retainers are installed on the floor.
BED: New stainless steel strips are installed and straddled beautifully by locally harvested Walnut wood planks. Bed wood has been treated and sealed on all sides.
EXHAUST: Ram horn manifolds were used and new exhaust was professionally installed. Dual 18” Cherry Bombs give this truck a great sounding idle and enough rumble to make some noise when you want to. This exhaust combined with the 700R4 in overdrive allow you to cruise down the highway at 70 mph while still carrying on a conversation or listening to music.
WHEELS/TIRES: Coker 15x7 Smoothies with beauty rings and police caps wrapped in 4 Diamondback DB II 225/75/15 DB with the 3” Wider White. Tires have less than 1000 miles on them. No spare currently on the truck, but a crank style under bed spare mount has been installed and a custom made crank handle (that fits through the factory hole) is included with the truck.
SAFETY: Three chrome latched lap seat belts are installed. All belts were made in the USA and conform to all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Two mirrors are installed, the horn works, and the truck has recently passed a Texas Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection.
MISC: I have the ORIGINAL owner’s manual, warranty paperwork, insurance card, and some maintenance paperwork/receipts (from the 50’s) that have stayed with this truck for the last 67 years. I also have a folder of receipts from the restoration and an Excel spreadsheet detailing most (if not all) of the parts used, part numbers, order dates/numbers, etc. This is a collection of really cool history and invaluable information pertaining to this truck that will all be given to the buyer. I’d pretty much guarantee that the buyer of this truck will be the only person in the world to own a 1951 GMC 5 window (rare enough already) with the original key and owner’s manual.
This truck has a free and clear title. Shipping (if used) will be up to the buyer to coordinate and at the buyer's expense. Local pickup is certainly available and encouraged.
