Description for GMC Jimmy 1989
The truck for sale is a 1989 GMC K-5 Jimmy 4 wheel drive. The VIN number is 1GKEV18KXKF528975. There is a picture of the glove box options sticker in the picture portion of this ad. The truck is a great project that is complete less a couple of nickel and dime parts. The truck drove to the shop that was hired to do a LS-1 conversion on the truck. Towards that end, the shop started pulling out the instrument cluster (they were going digital) and under dash wiring and A/C duct work were removed. Under the hood the 5.7 liter believed to be original motor was stripped down to the intake and the for whatever reason the work stopped. THE GOOD: Everything appears to be there. Aftermarket wheels with tires knee deep in rubber (3 of 4 tires) The 5.7 Chevy 350 V-8 turns over fine and ran not that long ago. (I never heard the motor run but I was told it was strong for that vintage truck) . The seats have been recovered and personalize and newer non original style carpet has been installed. The top appears to be in fantastic condition for its age. The front clip, hood, grill all appear to be decent condition.THE BAD: The truck has the typical rust you expect out of these years. Can be driven as is without being embarrassed or be a mud truck but would really need rear quarter, rockets and some passengers door metal work as well as the top of the tail gate. The center of the floors look good. The dash and instrument cluster are all dissembled but I believe everything is there except the dash cover. (They are all over the internet cheap). Under the hood it is missing battery, throttle body but most everything else looks to be there. I have no keys. Drivers door opens fine, passenger door and rear gate both locked. Needs a front windshield and drivers side vent window. The steering column needs the typical three bolts tightened up like they all do.
BOTTOM LINE: Everybody knows there are getting hard to find. Done they are bringing $20,000 - $30,000. These trucks are getting hard to find cheap enough the average guy can afford to fix them up himself. I think this is a great project for a reasonable price that will not take too much to get back on the road . I think the truck is also a great starting point and equally perfect for the guy who wants to do either a frame on or a frame off restoration.
