DESCRIPTION 1949 GMC 100. Professionally built show winner with one of the nicest natural patinas we have ever seen. which is why decided to leave it original rather than repaint it. This truck was pulled out of a barn in Kansas and we have a clean Kansas title. It started life as an all-original long bed but we like the look of a short bed and wanted a unique truck that was as up to date as possible so it got a complete. professional frame-off custom build. We started by shortening the frame. bed and running boards and then grafted on a 1969 Camaro sub frame and 2001 Camaro disc brake rear end. The ’69 Camaro sub frame was upgraded to disk brakes and the entire 4-wheel disc brake system from the calipers and pads to lines. fittings. master cylinder and booster are all brand new. We installed power rack and pinion steering. air bags on all four corners and a rear 4-link set up. The dash mounted independent front and rear ride height controls display the air bag system pressure via a dash mounted pressure gauge. You can lay this baby all the way down without anything touching then raise it to your preferred ride height and adjust the front/rear stance to your liking and it tracks and corners straight and true. But as we all know. handling isn’t the only thing you want in a truck like this and since we knew that the natural-aged patina finish would turn heads and draw a ton of up-close attention from people who know what they’re looking at. it obviously needed some real power to live up to its look. What else could we do but drop in a 5. 7L 350ci Chevy LS1 aluminum block and head and fuel injected motor mated to its original matching 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. We also painted the motor to complement the teal. cream and black frame. engine bay and interior paint. The drive train is topped with a B&M tee handle floor shifter for that period correct hot rod look providing the ability to shift quickly through the gears when you need to. This GMC 100 is fast and a real beauty. In order to get all that power to the ground we installed 275/30/20 tires on 20x10 inch wheels in the rear and 245/35/20 tires on 20x8. 5 inch wheels in the front on beautiful retro style 5-spoke mags. This baby runs fast and with that massive footprint coupled to the all-new 4-wheel power disc brake set up. it stops fast. smooth and straight. We fabricated a custom 2-into-1 Flowmaster exhaust for maximum horsepower and torque with a sweet. mean sound then routed it out through the driver’s side running board. It has that great high-performance burble sound at idle and really rips when you drop the hammer. We didn’t stop with just performance. The cab interior and dash was upgraded to modern standards with a set of brand new. original look Dolphin quad and speedo gauges. We installed a new 200 watt. AM/FM radio with RCA outputs if you want to add more amplifiers. You can also connect your iPod. MP3 player. DVD or satellite radio via the integrated auxiliary inputs. The radio’s tuner is USA/European compatible and even has a digital clock. If you have to roll up the windows. your environmental comfort is provided by a brand new Vintage Air AC and heat unit. The rest of the interior is also all new from the custom upholstered bench seat and the all new front. side and rear glass. rubber. felt. and trim to the stunning teal. cream and black paint. new headliner. door panels and carpet. Other upgrades include a brand new fuel tank. new 3-row aluminum radiator with electric fans. new wiring harness and new battery in the original under-the-floor location. The engine bay is painted and neat as a pin with no loose wiring but we left some of the supports and bolts in their original condition because they were straight. solid and just looked good to us with the exterior patina. All the extra non-used holes in the firewall and engine bay were eliminated for a clean finished look. The bed was only raised a few inches to accommodate the air ride set up and is faux-painted wood grain on steel that won’t fade. dry out or rot. It’s hinged so you can easily detail the fully painted frame and rear end. service the air set-up or just show off the underside of this stunning truck. The exterior stainless is in great. original condition and the body is solid. The doors. hood. tail gate and grille are original to the truck as are the window and door mechanicals. Before the build was finished. we trailered the truck to a local hot rod/custom car show just to get a feel for how it would be received so we didn’t enter it into any class competition. When we rolled it off the trailer. it was immediately mobbed by a crowd that didn’t thin out until we started loading it up to leave 6 hours later. Just as we got it on the trailer and were strapping it down. the event organizers came running over and presented us with a Trophy. It seems that the staff of the magazine that was sponsoring the show choose our GMC as their Staff Pick from over 200 vehicles. We also took it to the Daytona. Florida Turkey Rod Run and there was so much interest that we didn’t get to see all the other vehicles we were interested in because everyone wanted to talk about the build and the patina.
