Description for Honda Civic 1978

IMPORTANT: additional photos (including numerous close-ups of the undercarriage) will be posted within the next 24 hours to the tumblr web link referenced later in the description. You are looking at one of the best surviving examples of an original 1978 1st generation Honda Civic CVCC. I lucked out in finding this vehicle several years ago with extremely low miles and in very good cosmetic condition complete with original paint and zero rust. The original owner took exceptional care of it and stored it in a garage most of the time. And throughout my ownership. I have continued to show great care and attention to every detail of this car and have gone to great lengths to make sure it remains in the best possible cosmetic and mechanical condition. I am an obsessive owner who has gone through every inch of this car to make sure it is as close to perfect as possible. and I have added a few modern conveniences which make it practical and fun to drive. This car looks and runs as close to perfect as you will find in a car of this make and vintage and I struggle to find anything to list as a 'negative' about the car in it's present condition. Please view the link below to my online ownership journal which shows many more photos and descriptions documenting everything I've done to this car since it came into my possession. It will give you a very clear sense of what you are buying and who you are buying from. http://1978cvccek1. tumblr. com/tagged/honda_civic/chronoThis car is nearly spotless inside and out. Beautiful original paint. no rust. and an immaculate interior. The chassis has about 89. 00 miles on it and was almost always garaged. The motor is an ek1 from a 1981 Honda Accord. which is a 1. 8L 5speed. It was a bolt on engine changeover with no modifications needed to the engine bay. Engine mileage unknown but it is in the same range as the chassis. It has recently undergone a well documented rebuild with a new head installed and it runs great with a new weber carb. It starts right up on the first try every time and runs perfectly without any issues. There are no oil leaks but it does burn a bit of oil. particularly on cold starts. I have always run zero ethanol fuel. And changed the oil and filter every 2000 miles. When you view the detailed photos of this car. particularly the undercarriage. you should have no doubts as to the superb (and rust free) condition of this vehicle. The original paint shows some wear and patina. particularly on the hood of the car. But I think it adds a bit of character and goes to show that it is indeed original paint which has been carefully preserved. There are a few dings here and there. most of which which do not affect the paint and could easily be removed by a professional "paint-less dent removal specialist"My own profession is upholstery. so I reupholstered the seats using new foam and the highest quality materials. They are now very comfortable and in mint condition (and I added seat heaters too). Almost everything else in the car is original and has simply been cleaned or gently refurbished. Almost all the mechanical and cosmetic parts are indeed original (including most of the rubber) because this car has almost always been stored indoors. Again. please check out my online journal which shows many more photos/details about the car. my incredible time/effort spent caring for it. and my obsessive attention to detail. You will find photos of the entire interior stripped out for a deep cleaning/dynamat installation which shows the bare floor. door panels. and inside walls which are very clean and show zero rust. http://1978cvccek1. tumblr. com/tagged/honda_civic/chronoAlso please check out the following videos which show detailed walk-through and start-up:Quick walk-around: http://youtu. be/ECtLkFhOs7UStart-up. idle. and rev: http://youtu. be/tS2NzhOKOCQDetail walk-through of engine bay: http://youtu. be/hhFRWd2clNEDetail walk-through exterior: http://youtu. be/kw8hXB6-drcDetail walk-through interior: http://youtu. be/Q6sIoIimXpIDetail walk-through of headliner and dash: http://youtu. be/Zk4qRgeZmxYDetail walk-through undercarriage: will be posted in the next 24 hoursIMPORTANT: the "O" in the Honda emblem on the rear hatch fell of just before I photographed the car but this will be Fixed/returned to original condition before delivery. Also: the car is running a new weber carb and weber air cleaner/housing. Most of the photos show a stock air cleaner which has been custom modified to house the weber. So I do not want to mislead buyers into assuming that the carb is stock or that the car comes with the custom modified stock air cleaner made to house a weber. I will deliver car with the weber air cleaner housing shown in the last photo. I have many documents and receipts from before the car came into my possession as well as ALL receipts from everything I have done to the car since owning. I have invested over $7000 and countless hours fastidiously tending to I every detail. Here is the list of things I have done/added to the car since owning it:I spent countless hours working on the new upholstery. utilizing abrasion/stain resistant automotive grade houndstooth fabric (in keeping with the original theme of factory chevron/houndstooth pattern) and ultra leather trim as well as all new foam which had to be custom sculpted to achieve the OEM bolster shape. The seats include custom map pockets on the backs and small sunglasses pockets under the front side. During the upholstery. I also added the heated seats package which was professionally installed and wired with inconspicuous switches. All seats (front and rear) were upgraded with the heating package during the upholstery job. Engine rebuild. new weber carb with custom stock air cleaner modified to accommodate weber (this does not come with the car but will be sold separately for a price to be negotiated after sale). Standard weber air cleaner can be substituted/reinstalled at no charge if buyer prefersDynamat on all floors/doors. etc for road noise reduction. solid ride feel. So I do not want to mislead buyers into assuming that the carb is stock or that the car comes with the custom modified stock air cleaner made to house a weber. I will deliver car with the weber air cleaner housing shown in the last photo. I have listed this car with low reserve which I will not disclose. Suffice to say it is lower than the winning bid on several recent 1st gen. Civic auctions. I am sad to see this car depart my ownership and I only hope it finds another owner who will care for it and preserve this little piece of history. If you would like references as to the veracity of my mechanical or cosmetic claims. I can put you in contact with the mechanic who sold me the car. and an unbiased 3rd party mechanic who specializes in these 1st gens and has seen the car in person. Or you can simply ask around on the 1st gen honda forum. Payment: $1000 PayPal deposit payment (non refundable) due immediately with the remaining balance paid within 72 hours via Venmo. wire transfer. cash in person. or mailed cashiers check (this method will take the longest for me to verify that the cashiers check is not fraudulent). You may also charge the entire purchase price with credit card using PayPal or Square but you must bear the 2. 9% additional fee. Buyer must arrange pick-up. shipping. and/or transport. I can pick you up from the airport should you wish to fly in and drive it home. If you are not able to immediately deal with picking up the car or need some time to arrange shipping. I will happily store it in a climate controlled space for up to 30 days after payment has been made but the buyer must assume liability during that period. I would also be willing to store it beyond the initial 30 days for a fee of $10/day.
