Description for Honda CRX 1985
Available for sale is my original 1985 Honda CRX Si. It was purchased new at Pacific Honda in San Diego and was driven and enjoyed by the same woman for 26 years. When she was no longer able to drive a manual transmission. the car was used by the family until I purchased it in 2012. I guess you could say that this car was literally owned by the little old lady from San Diego. The car was always serviced by a dealer and then a local Honda specialist. HonTech. I have the detailed HonTech service history which dates back to 1992 when the car had 68K miles. The timing belt and water pump were replaced in July of 2003 at 124. 08 miles. This CRX is in good working order and is a blast to drive! It is a lightweight. agile car the likes of which are not produced anymore. The engine is strong and the 5-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly. The car is complete. Nothing is missing or customized – this makes a rare car even more so. Given how most of these great machines have been treated over the years. you are looking at a true survivor. Though a reliable driver. I personally consider the Si a collector car and have driven it sparing over the past few years – putting only about 2. 00 additional miles on it. The interior is in great shape. No cracks in the dash and just a bit of wear on the driver’s seat bolster. The exterior needs some TLC. Though presentable. the original owner literally gave the car (red portions) a $400 Earl Scheib paint job in 2003 and the quality of the masking and details was not good. The great news is I have found zero rust on this car! Rust is a problem that typically plagues CRX owners. Also typical for first generation CRXs. all exterior plastic panels cracked and are in need of repair or replacement. The auction includes some parts that I have collected that can be used when it’s time to take it to the next level. There are scratches in the paint and some small dents in the body here and there. The finish on the front and rear bumpers is rough. The front bumper is “tastefully” fastened to the body on the right side with a sheet metal screw. The nose panel is a bit warped but I am including a quality fiberglass reproduction part crafted by CRX specialist Sousa Speed. So there are no disappointments. please understand that the exterior of the car is not great. Presentable. rust-free. but not great. Some of the photographs of the exterior make it look terrific - some show the finer details mentioned. Please carefully review all of them. Ask any specific questions before bidding. This is a terrific car to own and drive! It is light and agile which makes this two-seater fun to drive but with a huge cargo area it can actually be a practical sports car! The now-iconic Si model introduced with this car. Values for these unique cars have been rising. This is your chance to own and enjoy a piece of Honda history! This car is survivor that can be driven and enjoyed as is or taken to the next level. In either case. this is a 30 year-old car with 155K+ miles on it. You are buying it as is. with no warranty. I have done my best to describe the car accurately. Questions about the car’s condition need to be asked before the end of the auction. If you are the winning bidder you will have have purchased yourself a cool CRX Si! THE GOOD STUFF • It’s an Si… • Runs terrific and is a blast to drive! • Rust-free California car! • Owned by original family until I purchased it in 2012 • Car is complete! All parts and pieces are present – nothing customized or “personalized”. • Interior-wise the car is quite good – a bit of wear of the driver’s LH seat bolster. • AC blows cold. • Original owner provided regular maintenance performed by local Honda specialist. • Timing belt and water pump were replaced in July of 2003 at 124. 08 miles. • OEM AM/FM Stereo with 4 speakers including accessory rear shock-tower mounted units. • New KYB front and rear shocks installed and alignment performed at 154. 78 miles. • Honda recently replaced the driver's seatbelt under their lifetime seatbelt warranty THE NOT-SO-GOOD STUFF • In 2003 the original owner plunked down $434. 47 at Earl Scheib and had the red portions on the car repainted. The quality of the paint is not terrific and Earl did a poor job masking rubber trim. • All exterior plastic panels cracked and are in need of repair/replacement. Typical for 1st generation CRXs. • Scratches on the paint and small dents in the body. • Black plastic/rubber trim on drip rails. side window sills and hatch are aged. Typical of these models. • Wiring at the rear hatch needs repair - the rear wiper motor works but is not currently operational. • The power sunroof works but slowly at times. It could stand some maintenance for smoother operation. • Various squeaks/rattles on rough roads - some typical for this model. some typical this age economy cars. • Three speed HVAC fan only runs on MED and HI – LOW is not working. $500 deposit is required at the end of the auction. The balance should be paid within 7 days. Transportation of the vehicle is the buyer's responsibility.
