Description for International Harvester Scout 1971
If you are looking for a Scout to restore this is an excellent candidate for you. Some of the years International Harvester offered the Scout 800, here was a "dolled up" package. In 1971, t was called the Comanche edition and there was a very limited run of them, round 1500 estimated. Some recent sales show the value of these to be between $20,000 on the low end and $40,000 frame off restored. The serial numbers are coded to identify the Comanche package. It's sweaty, nd a little beat up but this Scout is a Comanche package and verified by the serial number 883887G44106, nd in need of a restoration. Odometer states 43,900 miles which I believe to be actual but cannot verify. Same owner for the last 30 years and mostly it just sat.It will need repairs to the floors, ocker panels, ower quarters, ower fenders, as tank areas/cavities, ard top, tc.This truck is very solid for the age as it has spent most of its time in Arizona. It's never been in the snow or salt, ut the rain got inside and caused rust to occur. There have also been some prior poor attempts at body work which will need to be addressed. It is equipped with the 304 v8 and a manual 3 spd transmission. The engine has a motorcraft carburetor, ew plugs, ires, ap, otor, nd coil is decent and runs smoothly. The motor sounds healthy and runs balanced. It has dual exhaust out the back.If you're a Scout guy, ou can probably notice the parts missing or altered. Items such as the original seats, mblems, ash parts, nd some other odds and ends. Rear sliding glass windows in the hardtop were vandalized. I can offer one piece glass if you would like to use that.Motor will start up and run on a make-shift gas tank, he original tanks were toast and the fuel lines need to be rerun. The fuel pump was updated with a non-glass bowl, echanical fuel pump. The Scout will run and move under its own power but it has not been street driven and the tires don't hold air long. It will need to be shipped or picked up with a trailer and winched on.Considering the rarity, istory, nd value this is a great foundation to start building yourself a 1971 International Scout with a Comanche package.I reserve the right to end the auction early. It is listed locally for sale so if you're interested please bid early and often. Feel free to email with any questions.
