Description for International Harvester Other 1976
Putting my 1976 Traveler on the market. This is my daily driver that I've owned for two-plus years now. Has a rebuilt 1970 345 with a 1970 Holley 2300 2 bbl carb. Dana 44 axles (posi rear). Dana 20 manual transfer case and the Torqueflite 727 3-speed automatic trans with around 88k miles. Cruises at 70-plus all day long with her 3:07 gears but is also very strong on the trail. All new fluids 15K miles ago. She still needs lotsa stupid stuff done to her but I would not hesitate driving her to Cabo tomorrow. In fact I just got back from a 1200 mile r/trip to Los Angeles (1500 lb. trailer there. 650 lbs. of stuff back) and she ran excellent and had zero issues-----though he was a half quart of oil lower when I got back. Might be the small rip at the RMS. But she never went over 190 degrees and in the cold weather she ran mostly @ 180. Wiring needs some fine-tuning. matching set of new front springs should be installed (left front is sagging an inch lower than the r/f). starter gear/flex plate has a few worn teeth. a couple dash gauges need work. NSS/B/U light switch needs to be wired up. some 6x9 speaker grilles should be installed over the front speakers (that are set in the front of the seat bases) and some other stuff that I'll try to post up here soon. As far as equipment and repairs I've done to her in the past 2 years/15K miles. here we go; 1). Rebuilt '70 345 V-8 short block installed in May of 2013. 2). Rebuilt Holley 2300 2 bbl carb w/Mister Gasket air filter housing. 3). Newer front brake pads and new hub/rotor on front right. 4). New axle/diff oil/t-case oil. 5). Older Alpine with four speakers. 6). New wiper blades. 7). Has a Scout tailgate (that you use when you take off the Traveler fiberglass top). 8). One 14 blade & one one 10 blade AGC fuse blocks. 9). Real decent Milestar SL-309 31x 10. 5 x 15 LR-C tires that have about 25/30k miles left on them. 10). Oil changes done every 2500 miles. including ZDDP zinc additive. 11). Chrome rims still look pretty damn good. 12). BF Goodrich A/T spare on stock steel rim in good shape . 13). Battery swapped over to the other side of the engine room. 14). Ford style starter solenoid installed. 15). Original skinny battery cables replaced with 1/0's. 16). Perko marine battery kill switch installed in glove compartment. 17). I've got & kept a log book on just about everything I've done on this girl since October of 2012. 18). In the glove box (in lieu of the usual glove box liner) there is the Perko two-way battery switch. the second 14 terminal fuse block and a P/A system with mike and about 12 different silly pre-programmed noises and effects that it makes (cats. chickens. horses. pigs. sirens. horns et al). The exterior speaker for this is in the engine room. next to the the brake booster. Great for yelling at your kidz with when they get too far away from camp. 19). I have most of the pieces of a roll bar that came out of a Scout that will come with this sale. You'll just need to semi-customize it and add a couple pieces of 2" x 18" long steel tubing to make up for the extra length that the Travelers have. 20). The cooling system includes the Prestone back flush tee and such. I'll also kick in the accessories that go with this---great way to back flush the system. and I've probably installed two dozen of these things on my various vehicles over the years. 21). Have a questionable York a/c compressor for this. the hoses are there and I also have the entire under-dash unit that fits these trucks. I'm including that also in this auction. 22). I've got a couple of small boxes of misc. parts that I'll include also. Just can't recall what exactly is in them. 23). The intake mani on this is a later '70's so it has the EGR mounting space for it. and I actually have a working EGR valve installed on the it right now----but it's not hooked up. No need to out here in my corner of Arizona. 24). The Warn locking hubs have been cleaned and lubed recently. 25). Out here at 4600' elevation I'm only pulling 13. 5" of vacuum at idle. But at the beach in February when I left (a well a over this past Christmas) I was pulling 18. 5''. The older guys suggest that these Holley's need to be re-jetted after 4000 feet----but I never did it. 26). This girl still has the original 19 gallon fuel tank and I've been averaging almost exactly 11. 5 mpg's in the past 18 months )according to my gas log book). So plan your trips accordingly. 27). The top was completely sanded down about 14 months ago. primed three times then finished off with three coats of gloss Rustoleum black. It still looks decent as does the interior headliner. And the kinda wimpy yet very functional roof rack is still thru-bolted to it and will also be included in this sale. 28). The lift hatch will need to be rewired but the thumb latch and lock work fine. The gas struts are strong and still hold well-----in warm weather. 29). This girl will NOT pass Kali smog in it's current state. Motly 'cuz he no longer has the Holley 2210 carb. the de-cel module. the 'Gold Box' nor the Prestolite dizzy. So please shop accordingly. Delivery may be possible in the Lower 48. at $1. 10 @ mile. But I'll have to run that by my friend first. Thanks for looking an happy auctioning. RB
