Description for International Harvester Scout 1970
A rare opportunity to own a rust free, low mileage nice running International Scout 800A. I know the entire history of this Scout. It was sold new in Jacksonville, Fla to a local physician. He used it sparingly as an extra vehicle for about 25 years, then he sold it back to the family that owned the International Dealership he bought it from. That owner kept it stored inside for the next 20 or so years. In its life this Scout has accumulated only 41K miles. This Scout has the original 232 CID Straight Six engine, and 3 speed manual transmission. The engine runs excellent, it is extremely quiet and smooth. Transmission shifts smoothly, and the clutch does not show any issues. I replaced the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor and points less than a month ago. Additionally, a completely refurbished Holley 1920 OEM carburetor was recently installed. Intake manifolds gaskets were also replaced. This Scout has no rust at all anywhere. The floors, cab mounts, bed are all in excellent condition with no rust. The truck was repainted several years ago, it was originally a two tone blue and gold. The interior is in very good condition as well. The bench seat has was redone with new foam and seat covering. Most of the gauges work - speedo and odometer work without any problems, amp gauge works, I am replacing the fuel gauge prior to the sale as it is inop which is common for these scouts. Both fuel tanks have been removed and boiled out and reinstalled. The drivers side fuel tank needs the fuel line to be installed. The headlights both high and low beam operate fine, as do the rear lights. The signals work like new including the inside indicators and the auto shutoff after turning. The horn works. AM Radio does not currently operate. All the dash lights are working, as well as the inside light under the dash. The brakes are great, the truck stops straight without any signs of issues many of the brake lines and cylinders were gone through. The emergency brake is complete but seems to be frozen. The wipers do not work, Scouts had vacuum wipers that never work well, an electric conversion is the way to go. Heater motor was recently replaced, heater core and temperature control linkage is good and the heating system seems to be fine. All the glass is decent, the windshield shows some minor delamination in the corners. Tires have less than 2000 miles on them. The spare holds air but the tire does not match the other four, the spare rim does match. The truck has the very rare rear tailgate mounted spare carrier, which moves down with the tailgate. The four wheel drive system is the original International system and operates fine. There are no major leaks under the truck, it does not seem to leak at all. Exhaust system is quiet and solid. I have the original Line Setting ticket which is the build sheet for this Scout. Overall this is an, unmolested Scout that needs some minor sorting to be perfect. No rust, low miles, beautiful paint, and a great running drive train.
