Description for Jaguar E-Type 19700000
1970 Jaguar XK-E E-Type Series II 4.2 L 2 Door 2+2 CoupeHistory:Jaguar's revolutionary E-Type first appeared to a stunned public at the 1961 Geneva Auto Salon. Jaguar boss Sir William Lyons and his chief aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer paired up to design the new sports car meant to replace the XK150. The new car employed a semi-monocoque tub that utilized ingenious bolt-on frontsub-framesto support the engine and independent front suspension. The rear was handled by an ingenious modular independent rear suspension pioneered on the Mk10. The E-type boasted four wheel disc brakes torsion bar front suspension. This high tech chassis was wrapped in a gorgeous body that was quite unlike anything that had been seen before. Beautiful curvaceous and with just the right amount of aggression the E-Type was a smashing success from day one. Amazingly co-designer Malcolm Sayer had no interest in making the car beautiful. He was more interested in aerodynamics and applying his theories toward a functional design. In 1965 Jaguar performed some updates to make the E-Type an even better performer than ever before. The engine was updated to 4.2 liters and 265 horsepower. The new engine was more powerful and gave a generous dollop of torque at the low end. To cope with the extra power the early Moss gearbox was replaced with a fully synchronized 4-speeder that was monumentally easier to operate. Braking was also improved with the addition of a new servo to add extra shove to the 4-wheel discs. The resulting E-Type Series 1 4.2 could hang with a contemporary Ferrari or Aston Martin at a fraction of the price of more exotic machines. The E-Type was updated again in mid-1968 to the Series II. To meet US Federal requirements the headlight covers were ditched in favor of exposed units and the tail lights were made larger and relocated under the bumper. Other detail changes were made to the body and the engine received a dual carburetor set up to help it meet emissions standards. While the Series 1 has been long considered one of the most beautiful production cars of all time the Series II was sometimes seen as a lesser car. However collectors are coming around to the Series II's unique looks and strong performance. Quality Series II are now highly sought after by serious collectors and driving enthusiasts alike. The E-Type coupe cockpit is a wonderful expression of chic 1960's style. You sit low and stretched out behind the three spoke wheel - tach and speedo directly ahead and a bank of aircraft style rocker switches and auxiliary instruments at arm's reach. Under the large flip up bonnet lies the legendary 4.2 liter twin-cam XK engine with dual Stromberg carburetors. The SII offers a bit more comfort and nearly identical performance in a more affordable package.
Vehicle was stored in a car tent with tarp floor for approximately 20 years. The vehicle ran well when tented. However, he fluids were not drained prior to storage.
Prior to tenting, he exterior of vehicle was covered in Rustoleum. There is some minor, rior rust on the underside of vehicle. The majority of the chrome trim was removed during the application of the Rustoleum. The trim is no longer available, hus the chrome available is what is currently installed on the vehicle (see photos).

We have also confirmed that this Jaguar was from California and although it was registered in Massachusetts it was not driven here & thus was not exposed to the Massachusetts winters.
