Description for Jaguar E-Type 1962
Vehicle Overview 1962 Jaguar E-typeThe E-Type was initially designed and shown to the public as a rear-wheel drive two-seater coupe form and as an open two seat two-seater convertible. When the car was released Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made". In 1996 a Series One E type added to the New York Museum of Modern arts collection.
The first Series 1 cars used the triple SU Carb', 3.8 liter Jaguar 6 Cylinder engine and the non-synchro4-speed transmission from the XK 150. Only the first 500 cars had exterior bonnet locks and flat floors. After the first run the floors were "dished" to provide more leg room and the twin bonnet latches where moved to inside the car. Early 3.8-litre cars have leather-upholstered "real" bucket seats and aluminum dash and console trim.
The 3.8-liter cars produced (265bhp;198kW) and had a top speed (150mph;241km/h). 0 to 60mph times were around 6.4 seconds, maximum power was reached at 5,500rpm.All E-Types featured coil sprung independent rear and torsion bar front suspension, and four wheel power assisted disc brakes, the rear being in-board.
The Series 1 can be recognized by glass-covered headlights a small "mouth" opening at the front.
Our car is an exceptional original example. The mechanicals, and interior show no sign of being altered since it left the factory. The bodywork is solid with no evidence of rust or repairs. Factory gaps are still intact. The brightwork still shines and the pot metal items have no pitting. The paintwork is cracked and is in need of attention. New cooling hoses have been installed. The original cooling fan still operates. The Carb's have been freshened and tuned. The braking and clutch systems have been refreshed with rebuilt hydraulics. New rear suspension, engine and exhaust mounts have been installed. The engine starts easily and settles down to a wonderful note. The transmission and drive-line perform as they should. On the road the car performs without excuses. Supple suspension is firm in the turns and the power rolls on with smooth delivery. No shakes or rattles are evident.
If you ever wondered what a new E Type roadster felt like this is your chance. The original spare, tool kit and jack accompany the car.The original owners handbook with manual and window sticker are also present.Jaguar Heritage Trust has confirmed the car is numbers matching. It is our opinion the car would benefit from a light sympathetic restoration and nothing more. The vehicle condition and originality of the car reinforce and confirm the mileage shown.
