Description for Jaguar Mark 2 MK II 1967

This may be the Last Daily Driven MK2 Jaguar in the United States. It has a long term ownership since 1990 in Texas. This 1967 MK2 vin 121212DN,over this 27 year ownership, has many updates and performance enhancements similar to the cars built by John Coombs, Ian Callum, Vicarage, and Beacham. This Classic Jag can be driven in 104 degree heat in Dallas, Tx, in stop and go traffic, and run cool and blow cold AC. It has a new rebuilt 4.2 engine from Motorcars in Houston, driving power trough a 5speeds.com Tremec 5 speed and Fidanza alloy flywheel and a 3.54 Thorton Powerloc positraction. The bigger engine breathes through 2 2" SU HD8 carbs with custom air filters, and has a sporty exhaust system!
The cooling is provided by and aluminum radiator and a shrouded flexfan, with an auxillary radiator under the right front fender w it's own electric fan. The AC components are from Danhard w the condensor installed under the left front fender with it's own electric fan. This keeps the condensor from being in front of the radiator and preheating the coolant in summer.
Voltage is supplied to an Optima battery in the back, juiced up by a Suburban 110 amp alternator. The ammeter is replaced by a calibrated Jaguar Voltmeter. The Oil gauges are mechanical, the electric ones are prone to failure and inaccuracy, and the extra mechanical gauge is under the hood. Extra lighting for gauges is provided to see the gauges at night.
The braking system was rebuilt a few years ago and Willwood Calipers were installed on the front. The suspension ride is adjustable with Gaz shocks front and rear. the front and rear suspensions are hung on urathane bushings. A steering rack conversion from SNG Barratt was installed. What a tremendous difference that conversion makes, especially in relation to the turning radius and ease of use. Notice the Nardi steering wheel.
The old Jag is virtually rust free with only the jacking points repaired. Front and rear tow loops are added as well.
The Jaguar rolls on D-type bolt on wheels clad in nice Michelin Harmony tires, graced by Coombs steel spats in the back!
The wiring harness is 4 years old.
You sit in Jaguar XJ40 VDP electric controlled seats with picnic trays in the back. The the shift boot, and driver's seat on the outside bolster where the driver brushes the seat on entry need to be repaired . British Ambla Vinyl is readily available trough SNG Barratt. The door panels are from GW Bartlett. It has front and rear seat belts for double dates or hauling grandkids!
This Mk2 has been driven from Texas to Tennessee many times. It gets attention where it goes, and is in many wedding pictures and car shows!
These cars typically only weigh 3000 pounds, and were one of the first cars to be mass produced with unibody and four wheel disc brakes. The engines are basically the same as the ones that Jaguar won Lemons with 5 times in the 1950's: A long stroke Hemi headed 6 cylinder with a lot of low end torque and a free breathing cylinder head!
The Jaguar Mark 2, in any of its various guises, remains one of the most desirable four-door cars of all time. The combination of 'Grace, Space and Pace' offered by Jaguar's compact sports saloon was unmatched by any rival of the era and the Mark 2 found favor with racing drivers, the police and criminals alike.
Launched in 1959, the Mark 2 range evolved from Jaguar's earlier Mark 1 but was far more than just a simple restyling job - significant changes to the suspension set-up, including wider rear track, endowed the new car with greatly improved handling characteristics. The revised bodywork boasted a greater glass area for improved visibility in all directions, a new grille and tail lights. Inside, the Mark 2 had a fresh dashboard layout whilst retaining the traditional burl walnut veneer facia, a telescoping steering column, a new center console and new front seats with deeper squabs and folding tables recessed in the seat backs.
Considered by many to be ahead of its time when first sold, the Jaguar Mark 2 remains an eminently useable classic saloon today, with excellent support provided by the many clubs and specialists around the US and Canada.This Jag is like a Baby Bentley or Rolls Royce. It has XKE type performance and Aston Martin panache! It would certainly run away from any Mercedes of it's day, and Bmw couldn't touch it. These car were decades ahead of their competition....
