One family owned from new One of 7,990 E-Type convertibles made between 1971 and 1975 Series III 5.3L SOHC V-12 engine with four Zenith-Stromberg carburetors Four-speed manual transmission Recent service work Signal Red exterior with black top and top boot Tan interior with Connolly Leather bucket seats Air-conditioning Power steering and power four-wheel disc brakes Independent rear suspension Trunk-mounted luggage rack Chrome wire wheels with Jaguar center capsLooking for a one family owned XK-E from day one then look no further. We re selling this Jaguar for a local friend of ours and her late father purchased this Jag brand new and she still remembers the day in high school when her father brought this stunning cat home! Her father was a prominent doctor here in St. Louis and he always kept the car in a climate controlled garage. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer this 1972 Jaguar XK-E Series III convertible. Enzo Ferrari called the XK-E “The most beautiful car ever made.” This example was made in June 1972 at Jaguar’s factory in Coventry, England.
This speedster is finished Signal Red and its paint and trim are in overall good condition with minor blemishes visible upon close inspection. The wraparound windshield is in good order, as are the front and rear bumpers and guards. All of the vehicle’s lights are clear and free of cracks. The black Haartz cloth top looks good and has no obvious rips or tears. The plastic rear window is still in good order. If you need extra storage for a weekend getaway, there’s a trunk-mounted luggage rack. This cat rolls on radial tires at all four corners, size 205/75R15 and they surround chrome wire wheels with Jaguar center caps.
Under that giant clamshell hood is Jaguar’s 5.3L SOHC V-12 engine with seven main bearings, four carburetors and breathing through dual exhausts. The engine bay is tidy and is in driver condition. The battery appears new. Backing up that engine is a four-speed manual transmission. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power steering and power four-wheel disc brakes.
When the estate was settled and the owners daughter took possession of this Jaguar, it had been in hibernation for some time in the families garage. The car was then transported to a local Jaguar specialist, Le Stable in nearby Illinois where it had the gas tank removed and replaced with a new one. All four carburetors were rebuilt and tuned and a new fuel pump was installed. All fluids were changed, brakes were flushed and bled. 12 new spark plugs and tune up were completed, the water pump was replaced. New coolant and radiator hoses installed. Additionally the side marker switch was replaced, brake lights repaired, new panel lights and numerous other items to make this car road worthy again. Currently the air conditioning system is inoperable along with the horn but seems to be complete.
Inside, the tan Connolly Leather bucket seats are in fair original condition, with blemishes visible on both buckets. The matching tan Wilton Carpet on the floorboard is in a similar state. The factory three-spoke steering wheel is present and in good order. The instrument pane is in very good order, with its full complement of gauges. Interior door panels are in good shape, doors close with solidity and driver’s sideview mirror moves via door-mounted remote. Finishing off the interior is a factory AM/FM stereo. The original owners manual is included, no other documentation has been found.
The Jaguar XK-E was a British sports car, which was manufactured between 1961 and 1975. Its combination of beauty, high performance and competitive pricing established the marque as an icon of 1960s motoring. The E-Type Series 3 was introduced in 1971, with a new 5.3-liter 12-cylinder Jaguar engine, which was originally developed for the grueling 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The Series III is easily identifiable by the large cross-slatted front grille, flared wheel arches, wider tires, four exhaust tips and a badge on the rear that proclaims a V-12 lives under the bonnet (hood).
U.S. Market cars were fitted with rubber bumper over-riders (in 1973 these were on front, in 1974 both front and rear) to meet local five mph impact regulations, but those on European models were considerably smaller. U.S. models also have side indicator repeats on the front wings.
Examples of this Jaguar’s competition in 1972 included the Cadillac Eldorado Convertible, the Excalibur Series II Roaster, Mercedes-Benz 450 SL Convertible and Porsche 356 Cabriolets.
This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 77,375 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
